In a HUSNG format, you never have THAT huge of an edge. I think if I have a sizable edge over someone I'm maybe only 56-58% to win (And that would be starting 200bb deep). Pokers all about volume and pressing those small edges over and over again.
I give all the credit in the world to Nick for playing great the entire final table and putting up a real tough game heads-up. He earned that win.
By comparison the low SCOOP main with a $109 buy in (222164 players) paid 15% of the field and first was $221k. The WSOP could have easily came up with a pay structure that pays 20% of the field with $1 milly up top.
The collective gasp and groan followed by increasingly loud chatter in the Pavillion room when they announced the payouts was pretty telling. I don't think anybody was expecting 1st to be only 6% of the prize pool. Everyone at my tables expecting 1-1.3 million up top. I don't have an issue with the payout but they should publicize the payout structure before the tournament imo.
I think they made it flat to help the economics of the WSOP. 11M dispersed more evenly over 2,000 players who will in turn play more events, cash games, satellites, deepstacks, maybe even the Main Event. Much more important to them than paying somebody $1.5M instead of 680k.
This is fine, but should be known beforehand. I would be mad if I played this XD

Pretty obvious that's what's going on here. Also, whoever was running the wsop twitter last night was getting pretty defensive.
Everyone slated the ME payouts last year because it benefited the winner at the expense of everybody else. The colossus is the opposite and still everyone hates it. Well, they hate it until they don't win and realise they got more than they would have
