It was never confirmed publicly that it was a Reid/Kyl bill but it's hard to comprehend any such agreement without Kyl's direct involvement.

^^ does this mean, stars in the USA again? cuz that is all i care about, im happy with merge as is and dont care much about a new site.

This one is wide open. I have no idea what will result from the Stars/DOJ deal and what affect that could have on Stars reentering the US. If/When the bill passes I highly doubt there will be some loophole for Stars. They may have to hope things fall in line for them and they can partner with a US company.

Not sure what you mean by this but it should allow any state to enter a federal system of online poker if that's what you mean.

But this session is a critical time to get legislation passed, right? Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but hasn't Jon Kyl has gone from staunchly anti-poker to now being on our/the casinos side? I'm assuming it depends on his successor, but if this doesn't pass prior to his retirement is it going to be a big blow to the progress of internet poker legislation?

Jon Kyl is not on the casinos side. If it doesn't pass and he retires it will mean the online poker lobbyists will have to negotiate with other anti-gambling politicians. Ones who may or may not be more flexible than Kyl.

Tweets and letters are worth fractions of pennies on the dollar. We need to recruit pro-poker billionaires to get the job done. The farther this gets pushed back, the less interest I have in it. I wonder how many of you would take guaranteed online poker in 2016 vs. our current state of affairs.

I can think of two off-hand.

LOL, what do you think Sheldon Adelson and Steve Wynn are doing donating $$$$Megamillions, each, to the Republican campaigns in 2012 ?

Adelson obtained an Alderney online gaming license through a subsidiary in 2003.

Steve Wynn publicly joined forces with PokerStars in 2011, pre-BF.

You might not like a bill they would favor, but they likely have something in mind for online gaming getting legislated at the Federal level, rather than the State level.

Federal Legislative politics is not won by simply playing ABC strategy.

Sheldon Adelson is giving 100M to the Republicans this campaign cycle. He opposes Internet poker. Any Republican who wants a piece will find him/herself opposing Internet poker, and who doesn't want a piece of 100mil? Kyl won't support this.

Adelson has been pretty outspoken about being anti-internet gaming. Of course, I know he is a two-faced scumbag and would snap support anything that appeared to cater to his specific interests.

I had a quartet of young guys on tricked out superbikes pull up next to me at a traffic light the other day. They can blow $20,000 or more on recreational transportation that they might well get themselves killed on and nobody bats an eye, but oh noes, if I blow $10 or $100 or $500 on poker, then by God the moral fiber of the nation is in peril! That is the height of un-American.

Read the latest on Adelson and Wynn in this thread from Karak:

https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/57...-wynn-1221731/

Surprisingly (to me), it was revealed Adelson and Wynn had significant role in the 2010 lame duck failure according the Politico. Both of them probably voiced their concerns to Kyl.

Now Wynn said the bill back then wasn't "sufficient" enough and then he turns 3 months later and announces a deal with Pokerstars. This says to me that 2 years time must have been enough for the deal to be sufficient for Wynn. I say this because Kyl appears to be ready to make a move. And his willingness to move may also indicate that Adelson might support a bill this December.

I would guess that Wynn would be more willing to let a move happen this year than Adelson. The guy has said some pretty strange things re: internet gambling recently.

Wild assumptions. What makes you think rake will be reasonable? What makes you think competition will be ample? You know they're going to restrict what sites we can play on and what sites can serve us, right? You know this is taking away our freedom, right? You know this isn't the legalize online poker act, but the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement II act, right? Did you like the UIGEA? Did you think it went far enough to prohibit online gambling? I sure hope so, cause they're going to go further and prohibit more if they pass this bill.

So in your "zomg raking in 80 big blinds per hundred sustainable!!!" fantasy land, how much is the government taking out of your winnings? You know they are going to claim the right to arbitrarily raise their taxation right? You know how it really ****ing sucks when a poker site all of a sudden raises their rake, even just a tiny amount? Well imagine all the poker sites doing that to you collectively. That's what it's going to be like when the government is taxing online poker and decides instead of reducing spending they want to raise taxes.

Online poker is going to be the first to see taxes raised on.

Your winnings are going to be taxed as income. Did you know that the supreme court has ruled that the government can tax you 100% of your income? Politicians consider leaving you a percentage of your income a 'courtesy'. Don't you think that's wrong? Don't you think this has very bad implications for online poker?

Ah democracy, where the whims of two billionaires outweigh the influence of an organization with over a million members.

You're condemning two billionaires because they've had favor over your own special interest.

The PPA, they're a special interest as well you know.

now the PPA is lobbying for UIGEA II

Adelson is pro Adelson, and Wynn is pro Wynn. I wouldn't consider either pro poker. They'd probably both be in favor of snuff film studios if it benefited them in some way. And all of our efforts combined have about 1/1000th the impact of Adelson making one phone call.

I see that Lirva has stumbled his way in here. For those that would like to read this thread without his repeated political rantings and anti-PPA, rhetoric I would advise:

Does wonders for having a good, down-to-earth dialogue about poker legislation in the real world.
