The word is that the the main guy from stars is trying to buy immunity and a way back into the US market via its recent negotiations

Also, remember that Stars had a deal signed with Wynn pre-black friday and they pulled out because of the legal issues. FTP had a deal with the Fertitas (UFC Owners) and there are countless software partnerships with casinos in states so maybe a possible software merger could happen.

But you will not be playing International Pokerstars players right away regardless. The best you could hope for us a nice license deal with a US company.
I would be hesitant to deposit money right away. So if it does happen i will wait about 2-3months to get some reviews based on software, security, depositing and of course payouts.

Even if the Senate can get something through, how do things look in the House?
whether it's cashing in favors or whatever, these are two pretty great guys to have for our cause. from what i've seen, most politics is harry reid proposing something and jon kyl threatening to filibuster it if he even tried to put it up for a vote. i imagine kyl won't filibuster this if he wants to get his part of the compromise through.

yeah the lame duck session is right after the november elections and is considered the only time anything except must-pass legislation can, you know, pass, in this divided congress.

joe barton has claimed he has had the votes in the house for a (almost certainly identical) bill he's been selling since last summer; hr2366. that bill would be great for us.

Posting in another epic slugger thread. Btw, it should be noted, for those not following this closely, that Kyl is 95% of our opposition in the Senate. Him being on board (in exchange for a no-show job when he retires) is just huge for our chances.

I would have thought if/when US market legalised, games would most likely be ring-fenced so that only US players can play in them (for tax & regulation reasons).

The whole idea is to 'sneak' it through under the umbrella of another piece of 'must pass' legislation ala the Safe Port Act, only the House actually debated and voted on a free standing version of that (UIGEA) bill.

This thread and any other 'Daily Action' attention given to the movement of this bill has the production value of putting up "One Time, Yankees!" signs on the beaches of Normandy months before the operation.

and, as we see starting to happen now in europe, we'll be first linking with the other fenced-in regulated markets like Italy and France. it'll be a few years, but we'll include some large wealthy countries to our pool when the time comes. everyone knows about needing the biggest playerpools for a poker site to dominate, and the US corps will be greedy and want to take on the world.

and when the market opens up, euro players will have the choice of whatever they've got and the 3 US-intl networks that will each certainly be comparable in size to the largest ROW operator. Americans are not only primed to stay at home and on the Internet all day, but we have a flagrant disregard for money and we feel entitled to LOTS of it for very little work, so obviously online poker is the perfect fit to be the next MEGAhit, culturally. it'll be bigger than chess in Russia. BETTER, even, because of poker's nature as a game of capitalism.

if you look at California, where poker is really the main form of gambling you'll find, you'll have a huge amount of people playing poker. they have the biggest poker room in the country because poker's the game if you wanna try to run some extra money into riches without a whole lotta necessary know-how. if in the whole nation, we have legal online poker sites, and no other kind of online gambling.. people who aren't poker players will try to play online poker for the thrill of betting. they'll finally feel safe enough to put money towards this feeling, to try to get that gamblin feeling, online, AGAINST US.

I don't know how many people I've talked to who were already playing poker, who didn't trust the online sites enough to give their credit card. it's not that they didn't have $10 to try, they didn't want to give their credit card number cause the site wasn't explicitly labeled SAFE by their government. if we get that label.... people who never even played LIVE poker will give the game a try, online. not counting the committed weekend livepros who have played 3000 hands lifetime and think they know it all but are more clueless than the losing regs we beat before black Friday.

cliffs: regulated American sites will have a much bigger new customer rate than any online poker site in history, including old partypoker. it won't just be because we have more people than Europe, I'm willing to bet we have more gamblers per capita as well. basically because Americans are predisposed to be suckers because if poor education and our modern culture and rap music and republicans.

On 1st page of epic thread.

I think if Kyl really is on board then this could actually happen. I am not going to get overly excited yet, but i am starting to get a little bit optimistic at least. Let's get this done!

This thread will get big but just imagine if USA makes online poker legal, there will be a thread that is so epic with .gifs of money/chicks/celebration.

It will be a legend of a thread....

Anyway I hope that whatever get's passed allows multi-tabling and huds.

They really need to take a look at pokerstars imo and copy how they run their business into a bill. Allowing international players is a must if they are smart but I know it won't happen because look at where we are today.

I really hope for the US to legalize online poker by the end of the year, every US online poker player deserves it imho after the hard ships that have been faced as of recently with Black Friday, even if ROW players are not allowed to play on US sites(which will most likely be the case, until a few years pass).

The US sites that open soon will hopefully set the bench mark of integrity for future ROW sites that open, in terms of RNG certification/real deck shuffler similar to >>Real Deal Poker<<(true randomness, no speculation of rigging etc..), regulation, elimination of bots, elimination of HUDs, elimination of admin accounts, player funds(segregated accounts).

Only good things can come once US online poker is legalized imho.

Lol at anytime someone packages speculation as fact regarding the return of PokerStars, PartyPoker, or A worldwide player pool.

IN MY OPINION, if a bill get passed, it will be bought and paid for by The American Casino Industry. They are not paying for out-of-towners to come to the party.

And I'm sure there will be more than one fear of money laundering to the Al-Qaeda that will prevent a worldwide pool. Also, I could see them requiring you SS# at sign up to follow the money.

IMO, the only way you would see the old sites you know and love would be as lisenced and re-branded versions from current casinos.

I know people, in the US, that play online poker every single day right now.

If the site they played on would get their crap together, and also be able to market a little better, the numbers would be huge. Now, of course, peak is like 7k players.

And, I haven't read anywhere that actually said that the site could be seized by the DOJ just because of this.

Isn't it true that the sites that the DOJ were going to seize (or began operations to do so) had that coming because of other infractions outside of just providing poker to US players?

Non starter, IMO. No way in hell I'm giving a poker site my SSN. I want to play, but not that bad.
