sure but plenty of people aren't just scraping by and have way better lives than Lingrin. And plenty more would have never blown all the money he did and would be living much better lives than him if they were handed the same opportunity.
if living life on the edge for a couple of years, being set for life and completely blowing it to end up broke is supposed to be impressive i don't see it.
Taking big risks that have big potential payoffs like starting a business and ending up broke is respectable. Being set for life and just punting your money like an imbecile isn't.
I mean look at Matusow. Selling pieces getting staked begging for seats in private games grinding like crazy all wsop year in and year out in debilitating pain because he pissed all of his money away. Someone should be jealous of that? Even he will tell you it was stupid and he regrets it.
