Starting in 2022 “and beyond”, according to some sources. Going to Bally’s and Paris.

Is seems like I’ve heard this same thing every year, for the past year after year and year....

It also seems like you didn’t read the link where a seemingly credible source tweeted about it now.

Doesn’t matter if Matt Savage tweeted it, until the WSOP confirms it, I’m not believing it. I’ve seen this movie before.

I have no clue. I meant the VNEA that posted it on Facebook. They run the World Pool Championships and it seems they were told they have to move next year because they’re being bumped by WSOP. It seems like a random thing for them to post if they weren’t credibly informed of this.

But it hasn’t been confirmed by WSOP yet.

I first heard this in 2008. The WSOP was definitely moving to Ceasars Palace in 2009.

If the WSOP does move, it seems more likely it would go to the new Caesars Forum convention center.

Man, the Ellis Island is going to be jammed packed with grinders getting their cheap steak special.

This blows for locals. Rio is great for parking/access. Avoiding the strip is huge. My participation will go down at least 25%, if not more...

Doubtful. The more I thought about this it makes less sense. Why would they put the WSOP in their shiny new building when they could be charging companies top dollar to rent their new Tier 1 convention hall and then move the WSOP to a lowered tier property. (This is exactly what they did with the Rio in 2005)

So you're local and considering avoiding the softest large field events because ...

parking?

So I know there has always been plans to rename or make use of the "Horseshoe" trademark that they bought from Binions. I just remember this was being reported a few months back.

There are soft events off the strip at the same time as WSOP. I will still play for sure, just not as much there, and more at some of the other spots like Wynn (yes, it is on strip, but much better logistics than Bally's)

Oh duh, I gotcha. Indeed, that would be a pretty odd thing to pull out of their ass.

And for what it's worth, Chad Holloway did a little one-man excursion into the rumors not long after this thread. Not that it does anything to confirm/refute the rumors, but it's a fun little thread to see if such a venue could logistically host the WSOP.

Thread starts with this Tweet, but it's actually several Tweets, most of them rather tongue-in-cheek.

I’m concerned already about the width of the hall there. It’ll be a tight fit to squeeze in the booths for cellphone chargers, massages, seat cushions, and faux WSOP bracelet photo booths. Those poor vendors!

I'll miss the mile walk from the Rio casino to the tournament area. It kept me in shape.

I felt a little sorry though for the fat out of shape players.

Now that this is official...

A local is another thread mentioned the LONG walk from Bally's to Paris convention center. I wonder how that would work?

Also I wonder why they even need Paris. Ballys alone has 35k more sq ft of convention space than Rio. Seems like the whole could be at Ballys.

Park at the Target/Walgreens/DollarTree parking lot on Maryland Parkway then take the local bus to Bally's. The 24 hour bus passes are cheap. Probably 5 bucks or so. Monthlies save you even more.

You can also park in the restaurant row area in Hughes Parkway is on Paradise and Flamingo. Across the street from Silver Seven Casino.

It's not about the money, but it will suck to pay an extra $15 in rake to play a WSOP event. It is about the time. I played 2 WSOP events this year. From my house to my seat was a total of 18 minutes. I suspect it will take something close to that once I have ARRIVED at Bally's, between the parking and the walk to the site.

WSOP days are already very long. I busted at 1AM both times. That is already a 13 hour day. Adding an extra hour for the commute back and forth will definitely limit my play; I will just play at more convenient spots, except for a relatively few chosen events.

My hope is that they tear down the Rio, put a nice, new casino there, and bring back the WSOP to its best physical location in Las Vegas. Maybe by 2025 that will all come to pass...

I'll take the not gonna happen .

also, that location is best physical location for locals. I'd guess the tourist to local ratio at WSOP is 20-30 to 1.

I feel your pain, but the tail cant wag the dog here. Strip location is infinitely better for all WSOP non-local players from every angle.

There were rumors that Rio site could be location for new MLB stadium if/when a team relocates to Vegas.

I won’t miss the rooms at the Rio or the casino, or the food options (Buzios was great, best Ahi Tuna I’ve had surprisingly, but sadly replaced by a mediocre Mexican food option), but I did like the Rio Convention Center, let’s hope the new WSOP Convention Space at Paris/Bally’s is equally as good.

I thought WSOP was to move to the brand new massive Caesars Forum Convention Center behind Linq/Harrahs? How is WSOP going to work split between two smaller meeting venues of Bally’s/Paris?
