I understand maybe not all points apply to all politicians or all poker pros but it seems like there's significant overlap.
My name is bahbahmickey and I approve of this message.

There are some colleges where you can take a poker course and get credit toward graduation. (Yale is one of those.) Why don't we expand on that idea and have a poker degree?

Here are some of the courses that might be offered:

Game theory
Combinatorics
Probability theory
Psychology of live poker
Gambling--what is it? Similarities and differences between playing poker, sports betting and the stock market.

Cool idea! I feel like a poker certificate or something might be more practical given the niche nature, but who knows, maybe a college in LV could pull off a major in poker (concentrations could be in diff formats too)

That's a perfect example for everyone who has a degree in business. Without the latter, it might be hard to find a job.

I would first think if I am a more business or science oriented. Picking business or engineering. The latter because science tends to be a teaching career.

It is possible to combine business and IT educationally (the first year of study isn't maths and physics like in engineering but business).

In the engineering, I would pick another main preference: maths, physics vs. chemistry, biology.

The dentists earn twice as much, but the engineering salaries are still decent, and it is pretty sure one gets an engineering education. Picking a career that pays 1k less per month makes little sense when one has what it takes to be an engineer.

I am mainly a poker player as life didn't give me another option. I prefer engineering and mostly on the chemistry, biology (including food) area. Furthermore, I like their combinations with physics. I find the whole medical science interesting, and especially as physical, it has the body system and its chemistry, biology, physics.

As my talent, I think it is in the patterns that produce the understanding of the phenomenons; to collect, combine and merge information, especially for easier practical use, that's my very strong preference. I have many likings, a part of the time especially, and I could do many other jobs also, but I would think about the practical factors above all else and would consider the other things as hobbies.

My poker technique is good and developing as the new demands happen and I combine that to practical aspects and performance and make it all work more easily and as a whole. I am not a philosopher nor a theorist, leaving those to other people. I make use of their contributions, and that's exactly where a person like me is the best fit in; between the scientists and the technicians.

Clinical Pharmacist

You have guidelines to figure out what the baseline treatment is for a certain disease state, but you always adjust and find the optimal treatment according to the patient history, medication history, lab tests (CBC, kidney/liver function), creatinine clearance, etc.

Same with PIO solutions, you presumably know what your fundamental strategy is, and that's not always the most EV.. so you adjust according to villain.

Any sort of trading/stock market/wall street job
Sports betting
Crypto trader

They're all the same 'assign the true probability/value to x scenario and buy or sell accordingly' skillset

Freelance Software Developer is pretty similar. Travelling around the world, deciding your hours and having to improve constantly in order to keep up with the market and improve your rate. Also networking gives you better money opportunities.

I think it depends on whether your edge in poker is quantative or qualatative.

If you're the sort of guy who is a beast at the math and taking small edges on rationally estimated ranges, stock/options trading, stuff like that.

If you're the sort of guy who can size someone up and know exactly how to play them based on a series of personality traits inferred from their choice in a wristwatch- and what that's ultimately going to mean to how they react in certain situations- sales, law.

just think about how much we love giraffe porn here, most people hate that stuff
Not sure how you would go about becoming a business analyst if you spent your years playing poker and not building a resume. Even with a degree I think you still have little chance of landing a legitimate traditional job in corporate/business world with poker being your background.

you guys understand most business analyst roles are entry level right?

sure, microsoft won't be interested but i assure you guys the floor is very low for these jobs, they do have high upside because you can transition it to something meaningful but you're basically a powerpoint monkey for the actual decision makers, if you can demonstrate competence, especially at a startup with like 50-100 employees you're golden

There is at least one company (that I know of), that is looking for ex winning poker players or good players of Hearthstone/Magic the gathering.

They are located in Prague.

Hi Everyone:

I think I actually had the perfect job. First, I worked in the field of mathematical statistics which included a lot of probability theory and mathematical modeling. Many of the problems I had to deal with were approached in the exact same way you approach poker problems, and many of the non-mathematicians that I worked with, mostly engineers, would make the exact same type of errors that poor players make at the poker table.

Of course, to do my former job, you either needed a masters degree in statistics or math (with a lot of statistics classes thrown in which was my case). But once there, it's a great job for a poker player.

Best wishes,
Mason
