IIRC, I saw “blowing out candles on cake” on a list of things that are most likely to never come back after disappearing because of Covid.

Kinda hard to believe though.

I blew out the candles on my own birthday cake last week.
The important factor is that everyone at the party was vaccinated.

Everyone on both the right and the left are way underestimating the importance of vaccination in getting things back to normal.

Agreed, and I don't think it will even be a thing for some people, and for others it will be for a while and then will fade away. But there may be some for whom it becomes permanent. Will be very interesting to see what the world is like and how we all behave in 1, 2, 5 years.

Maybe a good time to invest in cupcake stores?

Same way as investing in AMC right now, buy when shares are at what you hope is rock bottom?

I know someone in the donut/pastry shop business. They struggle because a large percentage of their revenue comes through meetings, business events and people getting a box of things for the office on their way to work. Nobody knows in what capacity that will return but they aren't overtly optimistic.

Fancier cake's been mostly relegated to a niche product for things like weddings for a while now. For everything else, cake had already been replaced by cupcakes, cake pops, mini cakes and other single serve options. Regular cakes just don't work outside of the at home setting anymore. We live a world where 7 people have 8 different dietary restrictions that you can't accommodate otherwise. When I was a kid, we brought a homemade cake to school on our birthday. At our son's school, they prohibit anything homemade and strongly encourage single serve items. I'm kinda surprised they aren't requiring items to be individually packed/wrapped yet.

There will be some quirky things kids "learned" during this period that will stick to adulthood and maybe pass on to their families.

No Vaccine = No Entry for Buffalo Bills games. I guess if they can get full capacity sell outs of all Vaccinated people that is pretty good.

Hope the WSOP takes the same stance.

No vaccination, no entry.

Don’t like that stance at all

What about people that already had Covid? Why should I get a shot if I already caught it? And again, if the vaccine is suppose to prevent yourself from catching it, why would you care if someone at the table didn’t have the shot if you took it?

I had Covid back in Nov, basically was a bad-ish cold for 2 weeks. I have zero plans on getting the shot. Only reason I would is if they made it mandatory for the wsop.

If I have already had COVID-19 and recovered, do I still need to get vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine?

Yes, you should be vaccinated regardless of whether you already had COVID-19. That’s because experts do not yet know how long you are protected from getting sick again after recovering from COVID-19. Even if you have already recovered from COVID-19, it is possible—although rare—that you could be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 again. Learn more about why getting vaccinated is a safer way to build protection than getting infected.

If you were treated for COVID-19 with monoclonal antibodies or convalescent plasma, you should wait 90 days before getting a COVID-19 vaccine. Talk to your doctor if you are unsure what treatments you received or if you have more questions about getting a COVID-19 vaccine.

Experts are still learning more about how long vaccines protect against COVID-19 in real-world conditions. CDC will keep the public informed as new evidence becomes available.

Regarding why a vaccinated person would care if you're vaccinated: it's additional risk reduction for them. Pfizer/Moderna are like 95% effective, right? If I'm vaccinated and around another vaccinated person, my risk level is practically zero. However, if I'm around unvaccinated people, that 5% margin becomes a lot more relevant.

An extremely crowded and enclosed space such as the WSOP is practically guaranteed to be a super-spreader event for the unvaccinated. For the vaccinated, it's likely some will still become sick if there aren't any restrictions.

My 1 year anniversary of getting Covid is in 2 days.
I'm getting my first vaccine shot on Sunday.

Just get it.

Even if you've had COVID, you should get vaccinated because it is incredibly low risk (i.e. no real downside except the inconvenience of going to get it) and will help prevent you from catching COVID again, from being vulnerable to variants, etc. There are some decent arguments against events requiring vaccinations, but the fact that lots of folks have already had COVID isn't one of them.

As a public policy measure, businesses, events, etc. requiring vaccines is probably a great way to overcome vaccine hesitancy. Using WSOP as an example, there are probably a good number of poker players who otherwise wouldn't get vaccinated who would get one so they can play. It's pretty paternalistic, but pretty reasonable IMO.

I had COVID over Christmas. I'm still going to get vaccinated because I'm not an absolute bongo.

You should too.

So some of the players will basically be the only non-vaccinated people in the stadium? The NFL said today that only vaccinated employees (and people with bona fide reasons not to get one) will be eligible for tier 1 and 2 restricted access. That’s everyone who gets in contact with players.

A lot of info in post #943, that 2 page document.

I am not sure I fully understand it yet, it does talk about scenarios where people either need the vax or a test and it has 120 days conditions and 180 days.

It also talks about having proper ventilation if indoors, which they may need to upgrade the system to pass, not sure.

Assuming they fall into the 120 day one, then late May when it hits 120 days from 9/30 is when they would likely announce.

This is exactly why I like what the Bills and others have done. Many people would get the shot only if it meant being denied access to something they want to participate in(like how public schools require children to have up to date shot records). The more measures like this, the quicker we'll vaccinate enough people to get back to normal and isn't that what we all want?

Something to consider regarding surface disinfectants. Most if not all surface disinfectants have a minimum contact time and temperature requirement. Most will be a 5 min contact time and a temp of 35C (95F) or 10 min contact time at 20C. Some will have a contact time of 1 min.

For example, Peracetic Acid with Hydrogen Peroxide is very effective IF they are used with the proper contact time and temp.

If surface disinfectants are being sprayed on and wiped off immediately, they do no good and give everyone a false sense of security.

Because of the way they are being used, most surface disinfectants are useless.

Have a great day!

It may be that even if surface disinfectants don't actually do any good, they end up giving people a correct sense of security if they already mistakenly believe that covid is likely to be spread through surfaces, with two wrong beliefs just cancelling each other out.
