Could it be moved to a different country until things are better in the USA. Let’s just say China, massive market, huge gamblers, not sure where they are in terms of COVID but they have the venues to be able to host the WSOP.

There is absolutely no chance the live WSOP happens until there is a vaccine

In the past 15 years i've probably got sick about 12-15 times, and of those times at least 10+ have been while i've either been at the WSOP or Aussie Millions due to the close quarters/masses of people from all over the world and so on

Outside of running live tourneys in states or countries that are Covid-free like New Zealand or certain parts of Australia etc I doubt much live poker happens until there's a vaccine (and Melbourne where AM is held is in the only state hit hard by the virus so that's an underdog to happen by January as well probably)

Best scenario for the WSOP going forward for me would be that online poker is regulated in the United States on the federal level with the legislation allowing sites to have access to not only to a nation wide player pool, but a worldwide player pool as well. We then have a hybrid of online and live events, giving that many more people access to the WSOP. Smaller buy-ins are exclusively online ($5k or less). Medium buy-ins ($5k-$25k) can be either online or live. Larger buy-ins and specialty tournaments ($25k, One Drop, ETC.) are in person with online satellites feeding into them. The Main Event would be 2 different events. Have the $5000 online event like this year and then have the $10k main event in person.

Why do people keep saying this? There's lots of live poker going on in the US right now! Vegas poker rooms have nearly as many table running as they were before the pandemic.

I wouldn't expect there to be a live wsop 2021. I would guess they will run online tournaments like this year.

Sure, it could happen if there is a vaccine but I just don't see a vaccine coming to market in time. I think people are honestly too optimistic that we will have a vaccine in 2021. Maybe we will but i'm skeptical about it.

I think it's going to be right on the line for wsop 2021. A close call.

From everything ive heard while following the vaccine progress, i do think its likely we have one at the end of this year with wide spread distribution happening summer of 2021, but i kinda doubt that could lead to a full on wsop next year.
Maybe if they push it back to the fall, but even if they do that, i doubt i will end up going just because if my personal situation that I've never been and would probably rather save the money to go when its a normal wsop. So im kinda just accepting that it might not happen until 2022.

And if it doesnt happen in 2022, then something went wrong with the vaccines and i don't even wanna think about that lol.

Most definitely.

Casinos across the country are reopening and people are showing up. They had an $1100 tourney in Sioux Falls last week that attracted 518 runners. If a tourney in the Midwest can get 500+ Vegas will easily get thousands of people.

On the vaccine, I think it is closer than some people may think. My girlfriend is Chinese and was offered a vaccine by her company before travelling to Europe. This vaccine has passed stage 3 trials but is currently restricted to military and businesses (possibly due to the inability to produce large quantities for the general population).

I would be confident that we will have a 2021 WSOP.

I am also pretty confident that one or more vaccines will be widely available well in advance of next summer.

However, there's no way the Chinese vaccine has already been proven in stage 3 trials. The makers of that vaccine (CanSino) published their Stage 1 and 2 results simultaneous to Oxford in July, and it was already at that time being given to the Chinese military. It appears it was approved for use by the Chinese government based on a showing of strong antibody response and minimal safety concerns, but without any hard direct evidence of preventing infection.

Call. How much are we betting?

Vaccines will only be given to the highest risk people and health care workers. Only 50% of Americans say they would even take it. Herd immunity is way above 50% and it's going to take well over a year to make 170 million vaccines, which still wont be enough for herd immunity.

Why would you worsen your potential odds you would get prior to locking in the bet by attempting to educate the other side?

I'd bet a large amount in favor of WSOP running on time in 2021. Card rooms across the country are running already. My local Texas card room just did a $100k GTD that hit ~$277,000. Vaccine will be here in November. Life will be basically back to normal in January 2021 most likely.

80+ bracelet events, starting no later than Memorial Day (05/31)? Even odds?

It’s not going to take a year to produce 170 million doses. AstraZeneca alone has committed to producing 300 million doses specifically for US distribution by Spring, on top of whatever Pfizer and Moderna are producing.

If only 50% of American want to take a vaccine, the WSOP can be held just for that 50% as far as I care. But based on infection patterns, a lot of scientists now believe herd immunity may be achieved at much less than a 50% threshold:

Nick, I dont think you are seeing this clearly, but that's ok, we are all working with partial information. I wish the best for everyone.

My only reservation wouldnt be covid related, itd be if the wsop brand decided based on results from the success of the online series theyd want to move the dates back. If youre serious about betting it we can discuss further.
