Just paying people more has consequences as well. Not speaking of WSOP in particular. More just poker as a whole. It's already pretty low on the casino depth chart as far as casino offerings.

If they need to raise the labor cost for tournaments, then they will pass it on the the players with higher entrance fees. If those increased fees then in turn cause lower turnouts. the next step would just be for the casinos to scrap running tournaments altogether.

It will be like that in every industry. Even fast food, being forced to pay higher labor is being causing price increase every where. It's now closer to $10 for lunch for even the cheapest, lowest quality fast food.

The fish don’t care if the rake on the main is 5,6, or 10%. They’ll play. It’s the pros that are the ones doing the whining all the time. And yet they keep entering over and over agin so it clearly can’t be all that bad.

FWIW they did raise the rake on the WSOP tournaments across the board this year.

Nevada lawmakers recently reclassified poker tournament fees as gross revenue subject to a 6.75% gaming tax. So that is why the rake went up to cover the new tax. So vig was 10% on a 1k event or $100. Now vig is 11% or $110. But 6.75% of that is taxed or $7.425. $33 goes to dealers and $69.575 to the house. When rake was 10%. $30 went to dealers, $70 to house.

I meant how do you know that min wage is added to the guaranteed $15/down? The job posting sounded like they guarantee $15 total, not min wage + min $15 in tips per down.

Upcoming WPT at BestBet Jacksonville cancelled today per their twitter account.

Probably just a matter of time now for the WSOP to meet the same fate. Really sad.

Hopefully they will wait to make the determination 30-35 days out of start date

Yes he mentions the $9.

He does not mention the guarantee.

He does not mention if the guarantee includes the base wage or is entirely "tips".

Since the guarantee seems to pertain to tournament downs, how are they going to handle cash game downs?

I think charging olds (who make up a lion's share of covid deaths) 5x the normal buy-in seems the like a better solution than cancelling the WSOP. Aren't they doing something similar in the women's and senior's tourneys by charging non-women extra to play in the ladies event and non-olds more for the senior tourney?

EDIT: I am only half joking.

FL's 21,000 new cases on Saturday. biggest one total ever. Hard to imagine 1000's of people on S. Florida sitting to shoulder to shoulder all day would cause no problems.

You might be right though. Maybe virus doesnt like being at Hard Rock and stays inside everyones lungs while they are there.

I am going to be coating my entire body in Purell and wearing a hazmat suit at the tables until there are 0 cases in the entire world.

very possible they cancelled BestBet to avoid the guarantees and the WPT license fee. A bit worried about turnout.

Just stating the status of the event, snarky sarcasm unneeded.

Smoke cigarettes constantly because nicotine is a bronchial constrictor meaning less viral load gets in to your lungs. Yeah I know how respiratory viruses spread . We should all take up smoking cigs to "slow the spread".

Do you guys think the WSOP will allow players to smoke cigarettes at the table this year because it helps to slow the spread of covid?
