Crazy we still have thousands of Australians playing unregulated games. A complete stain on our "free" country.

Hey all

A friend of mine is doing a study, she's a psychologist; and is looking to differentiate between skill based gambling (poker, sports betting) vs luck based and the trends of various types of gamblers among other things. She's not anti gambling at all, and her brother is my best friend and a full time sports bettor like me and plays online poker etc.

If anyone has 5-10 mins spare it can only help us when these academic studies have a decent representation from online poker players/sports bettors/skill based thinking gamblers (recreational players welcome too obviously), if anyone has a few mins to fill it out i'd consider it a favour + I honestly believe it's good for online poker in Australia as she's an academic/psychologist who isn't anti-online poker and they're in short supply; studies like this could end up cited in future online poker legislative proceedings etc as a study showing online poker players have lower rates of problem gambling compared to house edge based forums of gambling and so on. The bigger the sample of self identified poker players in the study the more scientifically valid the data is etc.

Link to study (please fill it out honestly if you choose to participate, both recreational and serious/professional poker players and other gamblers welcome)

I haven't heard from Joey in months but working with a lnp friend to get online poker included in their Qld state platform he had me fill out a list of benefits it would provide and have done that etc

Not sure if anything will come from it but my friend is working on it and he's good friends with several LNP senators and MPs etc

Hopefully Joey is doing his thing behind the scenes as well but haven't heard from him recently

And cheers guys for filling it out

If you haven't participated, please give it ago. It's something that could be useful to us in the future.

Note the last nine questions are the most important in the study.

Also, like most studies, there is a monetary incentive, "You will have the option to enter a random draw to win $AUD $50 Wish gift card at the completion of the study."

Any potential active leads / ideas to kick-start the campaign again?

Very frustrating watching multiple live stops being moved / cancelled due to Covid without having a legalized online option to fall back on for those player pools (esp with all the WSOP online events that run).

Not to mention the sportsbetting ads that run every 5 minutes on TV. Every time I think about the ban it makes me angry.

Thanks to a wholly unrepresentative party now the former Xenophon party and now Centre Alliance (will probably lose their seat in the HoR next election). I still put the blame at his feet (and Wilkie) but also Turnbull being a soft liberal probably couldn't care less and was happy to exchange the amending interactive gaming bill for what he wanted support for.

Hey guys, just wanting to know who exactly is the best person to send an email to regarding the Act that prevents Stars/888 from operating in Aus. Ive read through this forum and can see Del Luca has given up? Or is waiting for COVID to pass?

While that makes sense, the goverment having more serrious issues to deal with but what if COVID isnt going anywhere any time soon? I still feel issues can be brought to light and hopefully we can get the ball rolling again?

ANy updates?

Like you all, I miss Stars sooo much.

Assoc. Prof Gainsbury is running a study & focus group about pokies/EGMs and payment methods. If you're eligible and participate in the focus group and the study, there's a $75 Westfield shopping gift card.

If you know anyone, who'd be interested, here's the link, https://sydney.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe...nxCU2IgCsrttjM

Note, Gainsbury tends to be one of the more ethical researchers in Australia.

It's so frustrating seeing the COOP's be announced and run every year, with us being no closer to having a different situation.

And with live tourney's continually being cancelled due to each state having its own agenda with the fed gov saying were not in a race for a vaccine, but now obviously we are....

we'll still be in this same unfortunate situation in years to come

I've been saying for years we're going down the wrong path. Granted my idea my not work, but it's worth a try.

If we could get a class action fund and get the appropriate Lawyers that know international laws they could lobby the poker sites to come back to Australia with the current laws.

Pokersites offering Online Poker on the internet which is international with no borders is not breaking any international laws. The IGB is an Australian law. What right does Australia have to tell theses sites to enforce an Australian law.

If I as an Australian download their client and decide to deposit money into my account and play poker, I'm also not breaking any laws.

Neither of us is breaking laws, yet the poker sites cower to these local laws that can never be enforced on them. (ie ACR, Ignition)

Australia demands these poker sites to enforce Australian laws that Australia would never dare to enforce on it's people as it opens up major censorship issues. If they did try and enforce it, we would then have all the lefty civil libertarians lobbying for us as well

Anyways, let's just continue to do nothing

Pretty sure the terms of their highly lucrative international licenses (like the UK) prohibit them from offering games in countries where poker is not permitted.

So, Pokerstars could offer games to Australians but it would be at the expense of their UK license (and probably a bunch of other jurisdictions too).

...and would soon be followed up by the Australian Government going after them for violating Australian laws - which most certainly do apply when offering a product or service to a customer based in Australia.

If poker sites were not required to follow any laws then black Friday never would have happened.
