Someone duped Dewey Tomko?, wants to protect us from evils of online poker

http://f5poker.com/poker-news/2014/3...tested-online/

Quote:
Poker Hall of Fame member Dewey Tomko and professional poker player Bill Byers delivered a now published Op-Ed to the Press of Atlantic City in which they, essentially, beg for further security stress testing of the newly regulated real-money poker sites in Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware.

In the co-authored piece, the pair raise the fear of all the security leaks that may be present including hacking, collusion and, of course, the Sheldon Adelson Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling raised issues of potential terrorists funneling funds from Americans to hurt Americans.
Quote:
But why are these the guys calling for it? Why now? Oh…here it is:

Realistic tests of the Nevada, Delaware and New Jersey online-poker regulations should be conducted. But David Rebuck, director of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, did not even respond to a letter we sent offering to stress-test New Jersey’s real-money poker websites.

That’s right folks. They want the job.

Guys, if we don't hire Dewey Tomko, the terrorists win. Please think of the children.

Re: Dewey Tomko needs work, wants to protect us from evils of online poker

I have been hearing horror tales of terrorists "funneling funds" via ipoker websites for the last 7 years. Is there ANY evidence that this ever happened? Personally, If I were terrorist, and needed to move money, I wouldn't choose a method that leaves a gigantic paper trail.

I can hear Dewey Tomko talking, but I see Sheldon Adelson's lips moving.

Its not like the terrorists have poker accounts. They just have proxy accounts through other people and receive the funds through them. Therefore, its hard to trace terrorists who use poker websites to funnel funds because you often have to connect the terrorist to the proxy and then the proxy to the poker website.

Also makes me think that they are using these websites to funnel funds to there sleeper cells in America.

Are there more than those 4 people at the table? If so, then he missed the BIGGEST point - that they're taking the money from "hard-working Americans" and "terrorism is in our backyard" and the sky is falling and blah blah blah.

They should go to Macau and launder it face-to-face, like real criminals do.

But would it not arouse any suspicion if certain accounts kept moving money to each other then subsequently withdrawing?

If you scroll down it breaks down a hand history where the 4 colluders call/raise, and 5 innocent bystanders fold pre. The terrorist druglords take down the blinds.

That said, dismissing it out of hand does not make it go away. What detection/enforcement are regulators doing to assure that players aren't being cheated by collusion. Drop the whole terrorist money laundering angle, and look directly at colluding for the purpose of cheating, something we have all seen online. What, if any, enforcement is being done?

Don't we all agree that something should be done to assure we aren't being cheated on?

You definitely need someone for collusion detection, but I'm guessing that guy isn't Dewey Tomko.

The rest of the security can be handled by regular people who don't need to know very much about poker.

Though, I would suspect collusion isn't as big a problem when you are only dealing with US players and sites have the ability to do more than freeze accounts.

Re: Dewey Tomko needs work, wants to protect us from evils of online poker

It's pretty sad that someone would stoop to this to earn a buck. As Mason pointed out he had and still has no problem getting sponsored by online sites. The problem he has is no site wants to sponsor him so he tries to use his name to try and act like he's some sort of authority on an issue that really is a non issue in reality.
