100% best training material available anywhere. Berkey and friends are absolute crushers.

I thought it was an interesting watch and the production quality was good. I cringe a little bit that at the end Christian is talking with Berkey and they say that they offered to stake Oscar in the underground games (although it doesn't sound like he took that offer for some reason). The fact that they would put money behind someone playing at 1/2 and in the situation and headspace that Oscar is in is pretty alarming and does not give me confidence that S4Y makes the most sound decisions out there. I almost feel like the last few minutes of documentary do a disservice to the prior hour in the sense that they paint a picture that Oscar started playing better, got back on the grind, built a little roll in the underground games and then went to Vegas and cashed a few series events. Although it probably wasn't their intention i feel like that was a round about way to say to the average losing player who has the dream that if you learn what S4Y teaches and pay for their material that you could be someone like Oscar and "make it" in the end. Christian says Oscar is now in a "good spot". Really? There is no way he is financially stable and any better off than he was before the documentary started. Again, overall I enjoyed the documentary.

Well stated dpain. Overall it was a bit of a commentary/promotion for S4Y. I was impressed that they were forthcoming that they couldn't really improve a 1/2 player. Seems very unlikely that Oscar is in a "good place" and Berkey & Soto pretty much say that. So at the end to say he is doing better struck me as odd.

I'm curious how Soto does with the pokerz. Would be interested in seeing a documentary about him.

Ofcourse if a company spends money producing a film they are going to feature their brand in it, I honestly don't understand why anyone is suprised about this. It wouldn't be any different if it was produced by any other company that owns a training site or has any stake in the poker world.

I can speak from personal experience that I've discovered S4Y when the pandemic hit and my country went into lockdown so I've decided to play online for the first time in a long time and was able to move within 6 weeks from 25nl too 100nl and shortly after take shots at 200. Even though S4Y are considered more towards live play. I think S4Y provides great material and content and the instructors are excellent at explaining concepts.

If someone is looking to watch long videos diving into solver outputs, they prob won't find it there (not to say there isn't solver material incorporated into their courses which there is, and there's also more of it in their home school course), but for people looking to better understand the fundamentels and how to apply them in game I personally thing they are great.

And yeah, also loved the documentary which I think would be enjoyable to people outside of poker as well, extremely well done, real heartfelt story and important life lessons there.

This Oscar guy has a really self limiting mindset. They believe his ceiling is 5/10 or 10/20 where you can make serious money, but he refuses to even play 3/5. He comes across as uncoachable.

I haven't seen To Be Determined yet. For those who have, did the SFY coaches teach this Oscar character the following concepts?

Seismic SDV Pivots

Omni Lateral Range Calibration

Stochastic Post-GTO Pool Frequencies

The Koon Quasi Solver Intuition Model

Bro they tried, they tried. But he kept saying that doesnt work in 1/2 or its too high variance. They tell him to move up to 3/5 and embrace +ev variance. He says he has to rely on booking wins at 1/2 and cant do it. SAD

The movie sucked.

1) The protagonist was whiny who kept repeating the same things. Would have guessed if you had camera there following you in free training you would at least try to grow.

2) Was basically a Berkey informercial. Not even pretending to be fair look.

3) The poker interviews/backstory were generic platitudes that 99% of 2+2ers/poker players already know.

While movie sucked, I will say that Christian Soto and Berkey came off likeable and made some interesting comments. it got me to sign up for their site, so I guess it worked and got me in their sales funnel:

After watching this for 25 minutes, and Soto saying that this dude's ceiling is $10/$20, I'm already mighty skeptical...

I enjoyed it, but the Doc is basically simply this:
Break Even/Small losing 1/2 player gets free coaching and doesn't want to change at all.
Quits poker to drive Uber
Finds super soft underground game, and probably runs great for 5 weeks, becomes poker pro again

Long story short Oscar will transform into a mid-stakes regular after absorbing all the S4Y coaching materials, and will be starred in the Poker Out Loud series and hyped as some sort of elite crusher (thanks to the incredible S4Y crew, of course)

I heard a rumor that last night was actually Oscar playing on Landon’s account against Perkins. That’s how much Oscar has progressed after signing up for 10s of thousands of dollars of S4Y training.

I suspect that this Oscar character has been in fact a massive high stakes crusher for years....and this portrayal of him being some kinda underachieving perennial low stakes character is just a sandbag.

The sequel will portray him going from zero to hero thanks to SFY expert coaching. But I suspect that he has been a hero all along and has not been a zero for at least a decade. He may actually be Chin's coach in real life for all we know.

Yes, the caterpillar has been a butterfly all along. The zero has been a hero all along. Very clever marketing by the SFY crew.

Don't want to derail thread but how are you a numerology schizo but also into poker? Wouldn't every card distribution/board runout of every hand be a coded message that you have to plug into mUh gEmAtRia CAlcuLaToR to decipher? Seems exhausting.

Whenever I get a coded message, I just ask my dog to decipher it for me. Unfortunately, because dogs are color blind, flushes were a problem until he learned shapes.

Be sure to recycle the tin foil when you re-line your hat !

Yeah, if you create a free account on solveforwhy.io you'll get immediate access to it

Just watched it last night, and it was actually very good, minus Berkey's self-indulgence

Honestly, I turned it off after 30 minutes. Just too triggering. Good production quality though, and I enjoyed some of the cameos from Konnikova etc.

2. Really brutal story of Oscar's. After literally years of playing professionally and lessons from some world class coaches, the man is completely incapable of understanding the concept of expected value and has a worse knowledge of the game than some breakeven .02/.05 reg. People say that these Euro regs are parasites when they fly in, antisocial nit it up, and suck $$ out of the poker ecosystem-- Oscar a) Adds zero value to any game he plays in and is miserable at the table and b) refuses to put in 1/100 of the work that these Euros put in on a monthly basis to improve!! Berkey hit the nail on the head-- when whatever underground/app games Oscar is playing in dry up in a few months, he will be back to square 1 breaking even in 1/2. Super depressing. I've said it before but live 1/2 is the most miserable experience of all time, you could not pay me enough money to have to grind 1/2 for a living 40hrs a week, just miserable fish and wayyyy more miserable regs.
haven't watched the doc yet but anyone who is grinding 1/2 nl for a decade needed to give it up a long time ago.

as for the euros- a lot of them absolutely do work hard. the problem is basically zero of them realize live poker is a social game, they're absolutely miserable to play with due to tanking and being anti social.

1/2 nl is a complete miserable trap unless you're super motivated and going to put it a TON of hours to be able to move up quickly.
