Sometimes killing off one of the name stars is the plot device
allows a movie to get to the point. In Kiss of Death (1995) , Helen Hunt is bumped off in the plot pretty early, getting to the main macho theme of the movie:
that David Caruso cannot act and has no big screen presence opposite anyone of real star caliber, especially a scenary-chewing, buffed-out psycho Nicholas Cage or a facially-challenged Samuel Jackson.... a gimmick replayed in the later Xander Cage XXX movies opposite another non-actor, Vin Diesel.
