Nothing like a "Dear Sir. Go **** yourself, sucker! Best regards, PayPal." to improve customer relations.

I should send Iovation an email that I'm disappointed that they're working for Paypal.

Don't get me wrong, I definitely don't approve and I'm glad that UP gave them the boot recently. Perhaps this effort should have a broader scope and target others using Iovation services.

As an aside, PayPal is an awful company in its own right and also enjoys stealing peoples' money.
This is my understanding; i don't think its quite every poker site but its pretty common in online gaming and they have a lot of customers.

I don't know if this is true but my opinion is that it is not. Their CFO won an award this year describing how he rescued the company from imminent failure, though they didn't delve into the losses of UB and FTP as the proximate cause. The company has not had strong success in transitioning into legitimate financial transactions, only recently signing up companies like Experian and Paypal. Up til now, it's been online dating, gambling and payday lenders. They championed a deal with Billing Services Group last year, a company caught cramming phone customers.

Of course, you can make the case that servicing the bottom feeders of online commerce makes their database more valuable because they come in contact with more fraudsters. In the CFO article, he pegged the company at only generating a million or so in net income, so they haven't successfully made the transition yet.

So I emailed him back, basically explaining that I'm not truly worried about my information, but more trying to draw attention to a scummy company that has an unethical background.

I doubt it will do anything, but at least I'm trying. If 100 of us email/complain about the same thing, maybe 1 of the customer support people will bring it up to a manager during a meeting and they might look into it.

PLEASE people email and complain. These people stole millions, they EARNED the bad publicity.

edited to add: Also share on other forums guys.

You guys are wasting your time with these "complaints".

The people responding to you are low-level support reps, trained to use boilerplate letters to sooth people paranoid about their personal info traveling over the internet.

So when your 65-year-old mom e-mails them, "I want to use Paypal but feel uncomfortable giving my banking details, as they might be spied on somehow by hackers", they respond to Mommy and tell her everything will be okay.

This is a much higher-level matter (contracting with an identity/device verification company that's shady), and WAY outside the scope of CS reps.

This isn't like writing your Congressman. Paypal can get 5,000 of these letters, and it's still likely that nobody with real power will ever read them.

So instead of knocking and belittling the initial efforts to get the word out, how about detailing the steps you have taken to contact those higher up the chain so others can do the same?

detailing the steps you have taken

Stating the obvious are not steps taken. Steps taken usually include a statement of steps he personally took, results of such steps and contacts made.

aup@paypal.com is where you report sales, transactions, or websites that violate PayPal policy. I sent the form letter via the method in the OP and got a automated response with that email in the wall of text. Seems like directly writing to that email will at least get your message read by a real person...

Yeah doing nothing is by far the better idea. I mean if we do nothing, we can fail and say of course we failed we did nothing. /s

But if we try, we stick our neck out and can actually (and probably) fail.

Who cares if we fail, at least I'm trying. I'd rather live my life trying and failing, then never trying at all. (the same could be said with my career in online poker, my dad thought I was stupid, had a million reasons why I wouldn't make it, but 11 years later I think it's safe to assume my "stupid/naive/dumb" experiment turned out working very well)

I am not mocking anything. I am simply stating that the current plan of action isn't going to get us anywhere. The canned responses received thus far add more evidence to that claim.

I have the utmost respect for Joe Tall and others engaging in this effort, but I think we just need a different plan of action. I will try to research the proper office where complaints like this can be directed, and will post more info when I get it. If anyone else wants to beat me to it, I encourage that.

For what it's worth, KW isn't advocating "doing nothing," either.

I don't mind keeping the low-level complaints going in -- for all we know, enough of it might result in some elevation -- but I also agree with him that this can't be the only action we take.
