Saw this on twitter today.

Mostly negative comments especially from Joe McKeehen who argued with Justin Hammer over the idea's merits.

"Day 2 of the $600 @PrimeSocialTX 300k GTD is today. The prizepool is determined w/ almost 90k up top.

There is a $200 turbo today. The WINNER of the turbo gets placed at the final table of the $600 300k with 10bb and is guaranteed 9th place money at minimum."

Thoughts?

Was this announced before the $600 started?

-If not, then it's a massive scam for all the players of the $600.
-If yes, then it's just a pretty shitty idea. Seems like it gives way too much value for playing in another event. Personally if I was playing this series I'd play the 200 and skip the 600, as it devalues your buy-in significantly when some dude gets to skip the tournament and hop straight into the FT. Almost feels like it's stealing money from the players who pay to be in the 600 for the sake of a promotion.

Any estimate of how many runners in the turbo and what 9th pays?

One of probably many flaws to the concept is it seems no prize money moving from the turbo to the main.

seems dumb, but if you don’t like it just don’t reg for the tournament?

let ppl run whatever stupid ass formats they want as long as the wsop doesn’t start replacing events with this

Isn't Justin Hammer the villain from Iron Man 2? Sounds like the idea a movie villain would come up with.

Structure sheet for 300k gtd ... includes mention of "2nd Chance Turbo"

From the Turbo sheet:

Quote:
*ONLY PLAYERS WHO ENTERED THE HTOWN SPECIAL ARE ELIGIBLE. 1st Place will be put back into play of the Htown at the final table, and recieve a minimum of the 9th Place prize. The remaining prizepool will be distributed based on number of entries. The winner will be placed at the Final Table with 15 Big Blinds OR matching the shortest stack, whichever is fewest
Turbo results, with payouts

Don't like the idea, but fair game if it was properly announced beforehand.

TBH, there's lots of new things over the last couple years that I personally disliked but they caught on anyway. Maybe that's one of them, we'll see.

apparently you won't even have to register for the tournament to get placed at the final table

That’s not true.

What happens if there is a microstack already at the final table?

The turbo winner wins a matching stack which has way less value than the max of 15bb at ft.

Are the turbo players advised as to what exact chip stack they are playing for?

The ev of the turbo event would vary dramatically.

No, since the tournaments are happening in parallel.

eh this is almost cool but don't think can really hit the right balance

9th place needs to be equal to what proper 1st in the $200 would be to feel OK, from then on a freeroll for a turbo winner on 10BBs, if it sounds exciting why not if the house feels like running a promotion as long as they add that player's entry to the prizepool

Quick calculation seems that 1st in Turbo would have been $8600 (prize pool minus all other positions).

Turbo winner joined 8 others at nine handed final table.

9th paid $8600. (coincidence?)

9th seems to have been paid twice. Once for the guy knocked out to open up the seat for the Turbo winner (ie 9th place in a normal format) and once for the first knocked out from the "final table + Turbo winner" So maybe this is where the 1st place money from the Turbo went.

Turbo winner moved up to 7th for $13990. Started table with 355,000 (3.55BB), tied for lowest stack.

This is way too complicated and I agree someone some way will end up losing out on equity massively. I'd not prefer an FT-bubble being replaced with a tournament winner.

Is this accurate?

"Just in case anyone still has any delusions that the “2nd chance” $200 tourney awarding a seat at $600 FT was anything less than a terrible idea, here’s the math

"Basically to make $3700 rake the idea costs true final 8 collectively 4.8k equity, hitting the small stacks hardest" https://t.co/3UfSeLIjP7

Another way to look at that is that no one lost more than 10% of their actual equity, everyone but the shortest stack lost a pretty miniscule part of their equity, and that "lost equity" did go to another player, not to the house or whatever, which is kind of implied when he says "to make 3700 rake."

Also, anyone who played the 600 partially due to having another $200 shot at the FT also increased all those players equities by generating a bigger prize pool.

If this was a last-minute "oh hey we added this how fun!" I would understand the problem. As is, it was advertised and known, and people elected to play. I think it's a pretty cool and fun concept, and I wouldn't want it in all tourneys or in tournies like a WPT main or bracelet event, but a variety of formats and ideas is how things improve.
