BB (Hero): $50.00 (100 bb)

as a short stack heads up plo specialist, am I supposed to three bet this holding or should I just call and see a flop?

So it will depend on his RFI frequency. If he has near an optimal RFI of around 45%, it's super close and won't matter which option you take. If he plays like most people do (including most HS players) which is to RFI 80%, it will be an easy 3B.

Now, the optimal frequencies I quoted above are for reasonable rake (say 5-10+ on stars or ACR). I've never studied 50PLO rake models and short stacking can't be a winning strategy there. As a result, the preflop models will get pretty wonky. My guess is that at 40bb at this rake, IP will almost never limp and will just open like 65% (and still be losing). This is wildly different from the no rake or the HS models. Still vs 65% of hands, when you generate an SPR of around 1.8 OTF, KK85sss will be a good 3B.

Hope that helps!

You play HU PLO and really need to be good at PLO. If you don't see yourself getting it in a head 7 of 10 in 6 ring, you're going to get destroyed at .50/1.00 and up. I have a great memory for losing money and how not to do it again. You need that for HU PLO. You better remember that if you don't always raise a blind and some to open, you're not going to be able to control the pot in enough instances that it's a stupid thing to do.

HU PLO is awesome. Where are these games? You know the nuttiest stuff? Phil Galfond in a lot of challenges was down so much, and he came back every time. It's nuts. He's a god at hu plo.

rep has always been a douche.

First he says your sample size is weak, then he tears into your graph in a way that only makes sense if you had a large enough sample size. which is it bro?

everyone knows you suck at posting and your jealousy knows no bounds.

sincerely,
everyone but you and your 1 and only "friend" who may or not be a real person.

An update for those interested. I'm currently working on getting the ranges from the monker sims used in the book. The people who bought the book will receive an updated version of the book along with the ranges when completed.

As promised, I've also included my latest results since coming back to Europe in June. Almost all the hands are from 10-20 or 25-50 zoom on stars.com. Looking forward to reading the well informed and articulate posts of Rep troll. Still haven't seen him in the games, but I probably just don't recognize his screenname.

I tried searching the thread, but I couldn't find it. What's your Stars sn?

And nice results! Apparently it's all about that red line at higher stakes.

Do you feel like overbluffing is the way to go, since people won't find enough calls?

I haven't mentioned it in the thread, but have made videos on RIO with my sn showing so it's out there. Dontcallmekiwi.

Actually, I don't pay much attention to the red or blue lines and feel that they are more a reflection of what my opponents are doing rather than what I'm doing. There are definitely some good bluff and barrel spots that I take advantage of, though

This thread is the epitome of what is wrong with poker, specifically how +rep both thinks that OP's results is the only barometer of his poker coaching ability yet disappears when offered the ability to play OP at high stakes (and somehow takes offense at being called a troll)

Anyway, I don't play headsup formats (and didn't realize there is much action there anymore) but if I did would definitely have considered buying, looks like you put a ton of work in

Good luck with the book (and kudos for being able to admit on a poker forum that you like poker but you have other motivations in life as well)

I can't believe it. That seems so out of character.

Hey restack,

I've seen you battling vs finnish reg yesterday.

I am curious, why do you prefer 50 bb strategy over 100 bbs?

Also, the stats, that you posted are all HU?

What could be the ratio of reg:rec?

Now I see ubersherms battling. He's also from NZ. Do you guys work on your game together?

One last question: do you coach? I am curious, as I really love the game and I've been trying to get into it like half a year ago, but I got my ass beat up completely. I sucked especially on the BB (probably too passive in a lot of spots, as I am coming from NLH background) and I was playing HU PLO 50, where it's super hard to beat the rake.

So do you also help players with aspirations of moving up higher?

Thank you for the response in advance and glgl.

Yeah I'll consider a special price. Not sure how I would do a payment plan, maybe send someone 1/4 of the book?

I think the book has tremendous value, even for those not playing HU full time. Here are the reasons:

1. HU poker really lets you get to the core fundaments of the game in a way that I don't think 6 max does. This may be why HU players can generally play 6 max better than 6 max players can play HU. Mastering these principles (which you undoubtedly will after reading the book) will make your 6 max game much, much better

2. Being able to start games as a 6max player is super valuable and even if you don't plan to play HU, but play 6 max full time, you will probably play tens of thousands of hands HU each year starting games. Having a big edge here easily pays for the book.

3. Even if you only play PLO tournaments and thus would only get HU at the very end of a deep run, you can now choose not to chop and play the equivalent of nose bleeds against someone who doesn't know what they're doing in HU. Even if that happens only once in your life, it will probably pay for the book many times over.

Every high stakes HU player has studied 100bb and therefore is at least competent at it. Why not force them to play a version of the game that I've studied deeply and that they have never even considered?

Those results are 100% HU. I don't bumhunt and basically that was me battling almost everyone I could find on stars.

I do teach. I can't post my website on here, but it's just my name and .com and easy to google. My students have all had tremendous success and I've taken players from little PLO knowledge to double digit winrates at HS in a year.

Never met ubersherms.

HUPLO50 rake on stars is almost certainly unbeatable. I think PLO500z was like 9bb/100 when I last checked so I can't even imagine what PLO50z is.

Like I've said before. Some of the guys at 10-20, 25-50 on stars are so bad preflop, you can win in the BB in HU

Hey

I am always interested in this thread. I always have questions

i) bearing in mind your recent results/play, is there anything you are doing (to be a winner) @ the table that wasn’t included in the book?

for whatever reason. and that includes only recently found out.

ii) was there anything you didn’t include because the concept was too difficult to get across/you couldn’t articulate the idea well to the reader?

I am asking explicitly so if/when I get the book I have a record of what is not included/something that’s useful for play to still look into.

iii) how many specifically HU RIO vids have you submitted/are upcoming in the short term?
My Latest Book: HUPLO: The Definitive Guide Quote

iv) if you had 1 hour to teach a beginner/intermediate all-round poker player HUPLO what would you give them?

v) if you had 50 hours with the same guy/girl, what could you do for them/what methods would you use?

Thanks

Hey man, thanks for your questions.

So there is nothing that was intentionally left out. If I felt a concept was hard to explain, I would just think about it a lot until I could explain it

Since the first version of the book, I have added a few topics including 200bb 3B pots. I also have the monker ranges used in the book ready to send out. Everyone who bought previous versions of the book will get these updates for free so don't worry about buying too soon. I haven't changed my opinion on earlier material, I'm just adding more. Hope that helps!

In one hour, I would teach the concepts of range construction that I illustrate in the book (this is available as a free chapter on my website). These concepts are poker universal so would help in 4-5-6c PLO HU as well as 6 max.

In 50 hours, well I'd probably teach someone just about everything and they would then be scary good

Thanks Cory

It’s interesting that you think 50 hours is enough to teach anyone everything.

In some ways 50 hours sounds a v intimidating amount of time in relation to the amount of material you could cover from both parties perspective but looking @ it from a different POV it sounds negligible
