I would stay away from Australia till there is a change of government. The governement here is going to implement a gambling licence here cause 1 ****ing independant from the ******* of the world thinks it'll curb problem gambling in this country. This means anyone that wants to play the pokies, have a punt on the nags on a saturday or even lotto have to apply for a licence to do so.

Now this is wrong.

Mind u the same independant when he was in the military made his junior officers give the nazi salute commemorating the 50th Ann of Hitler seizing power in germany. Go figure....

so it's far from being easy. also london for example is flooded now with islamists.
For what is this an example of? Where are these floods of Islamists? I am looking out of my window and I can't see them. Am I not scared enough?

Lol what?

It is flooded with small-minded people like you unfortunately, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons.

I think the easiest way to 'relocate' to the UK would be to sign up to do a course at a college or University, or even on to some sort of volunteer program, so that you can apply for a temporary visa. And then as soon as you have an address in the UK you open a bank account.

You won't be allowed to work if you enter the UK to do charity work - but playing poker is recreational and untaxed so you would not be breaking that condition if you played poker for profit. So can we anticipate a huge influx of American Jehovah's Witnesses and missionaries coming to preach the Book of Mormon - all carrying laptops with 3G cards to catch up on Pokerstars in their down time?

any players considering UK move should add me to skype. I'll most probably be moving down to Brighton this year and we may have a spare room or two. Brighton is an hour from London on the south coast.

As a citizen of the United States you must file a tax return even if you live abroad. It doesn't matter how much you make you still must file.

See this question on the US Embassy in the United Kingdom web page for example.

This is a viable idea. I work at a University, our regulations allow students up to six years to complete their courses. They get to open bank accounts and everything.

Sign up for a degree or Masters, turn up to some classes..pass a few, fail a few and have re-sits to extend your stay. You could easily buy yourself 2-3 years here without much difficulty at the cost of $10k-$15k in fees. The top end players are making so much that it's a small outlay.

At the end of your course, you could set up your own business (Gutshot Enterprises or whatever) and before you know it, you're in line for long-term residency.

The government are clamping down quite significantly on student immigration over the next 12-18 months but in my opinion, there are still enough loop holes to be found.

Well.... you're the one making less than $80K per year.

But you are correct if you live more than 330 days of the year out of the Country you can exclude up to $80K of Earned Income. And as stated by a poster above me, I believe that you still need to file to claim the exclusion.

For you US players, I would seriously consider a reloaction to Niagara Falls, Ontario. Very close to the USA border obviously, 1 major airport 20min away in Buffalo, NY that has decent prices to visit family etc, and one smaller airport in Niagara Falls, NY that doesn't fly to as many locations, but is even cheaper than Buffalo. Living close to the border has the benefit of being able to hop back over the border to the USA so you are technically not "residing" in Canada. Each time you cross back into Canada you are considered a visitor and, unless otherwise stated by the Customs/Immigration Officers, are allowed to stay in Canada up to 3 months. Niagara Falls, ON has the benefit of also having very good live play. There are 2 casino's located on the Canadian side of the border ("Fallsview Casino" and "Casino Niagara")...Fallsview has the best games going 24/7/365, ranging anywhere from 1-2 to 25-50nl. There is also a casino in Niagara Falls, NY 3 blocks away from Canadian Border named "Seneca" that has live play 24/7/365, however higher games typically not played. Now I can't give any advice on how to open a bank account, I haven't looked into it that much, however the banks in the area would include Bank of Nova Scotia, Toronto Dominion, Bank of Montreal, Royal Bank of Canada and various Credit Unions. Look at all their sites and see if/how to create a bank account here in Canada to assist you.
As far as weather goes, it is not that bad. REALLY!!! lol. Just think of any northeastern US major city, thats about what you get here. Warm humid summers, winters not terrible, normally around 30-40 faranheit, some snow storms but it mainly melts a few days later. And as far as food goes, no it is not all canadian bacon and poutine as stated by an earlier poster (but yes, a lot of "eh's" and "buddy", lol). Niagara Falls also offers a very good nightlife, especially in the summertime with all the tourists. It is not Vegas by any means!!! But what other place is? Hope this can be of help to at least someone out there, and I wish all US Players the best of luck in such terrible time. Hope all eventually works out for you guys and gals!!

While in Canada as a visitor you are expressly forbidden to work. If you do work you are breaking the law. If you try to go back and forth crossing the border every few months as a visitor to renew your visitor stay the Canadian immigration officials will notice that you're just trying to stay there indefinitely and they won't allow it. You're not going to get permanent residency in Canada with a work visa unless you have a specific work skillset they're looking for, such as a nurse or psychologist. If you're just a poker player that's not good enough. You can also get permanent residency if you're an investor with 800,000 dollars to spend in their economy, or you have a Canadian spouse, or you will go to school there. If this doesn't apply to you, there are no other options. You're not going to stay in Canada.

Not sure if this was mentioned in the thread before, but I heard stars was willing to help their SNE's in order to still grind. I would have to imagine the % of actual grinders from here that are going to move no higher than 5%. We will soon have a government regulated site that will be forbidden to players outside of the good ol` USA. It may even end up that we have poker sites for individual states which would really be horrible so let's hope that doesn't happen. It is really hard for me to be optimistic about the current situation given the current laws we have in place.

In New Zealand the decent Sunday Majors start at around 11am on a Monday, you guys can celebrate the weekend when everyone else does, taxation is fairly lax as well. I'm not sure how easy or hard it is to get in.

LOL - that was my 1st choice but seems the crime and finding a place to live is tough. Housing prices seem very excessive. Also, I cannot relocate my family due to my kids age, wifes job etc.

So I have to find a place pretty cheap and fly home every 3 weeks or so.

Just such BS for an american to have to jump through all these hoops to play online poker. First time I am ashamed to call myself an americian.

Tommy,

I'm in same boat as you. I Tweeted what I thought about this country and my wife was none too please. I'm considering moving us to my grandmother's vacant condo in Miami and commuting weekly to Bahamas. We have a 20 month old so Montessori schools are a priority for us. I want someplace safe and cheap.

Maybe we can put our heads together or join forces? I dunno, I've sent similar messages to Stars and it seems they really can't offer much guidance.

canbonly1

ps. I will skype you later, k?
