So many people from the USA are talking about relocating to another country to continue their "careers" as online pros. In this thread feel free to give advice about how exactly this would be intelligently done. By this I mean; setting up a foreign bank account, finding the best place to live for a poker pro, how to get the appropriate visas, most favorable countries, etc. Also, anyone who has already done this can give their experiences either positive or negative.

I'm a recreational player and this sucks for me, but I really feel for the pros and understand wanting to move to another country to play. But won't the games be dead? Or will places like iPoker still be good enough to grind out a living?

An American citizen still has to pay Federal income tax no matter where in the world they live or earn that money. Let's say our plucky hypothetical poker-playing lad moves to Eastoutbackstan to play e-poker. If he doesn't pay any taxes when he comes home for Christmas or for a wedding or to bury grannie he can still get picked up at the airport for income tax evasion.

Online poker is not dead. US players can play again eventually. The only difference is that you will be playing on a government-licensed website.

Please don't tell me you are a crook.

I was recently looking into travelling to various destinations in the world, all funded by playing online when abroad.

The Phillipines came top of my list, but probably not Manilla.

Probably of no interest:

He makes a valid point. It's simply supply and demand. If the # of donks decreases at a disproportionately higher rate than the # of pros, then the games will be tougher.

The UK would be the safest for online poker, I can't see it ever being controlled much or taxed here.

Plus good stable country, etc etc.

There are 210,000 players on Stars right now, it's very ignorant to say games will now be dead. Hopefully Americans (and I don't have anything against them) realise that they are not superior to every other country. /rant

But the UK has to be a viable option, whilst living expenses are high here our laws make online poker and gambling perfectly legal and considered a fairly respected past time.

Most countries are sort of funny about just letting people in indefinitely so they can by-pass the laws of their home country. I've lived and traveled extensively, sometime for extended periods (>3 months) of time. I own a place in Costa Rica and am investigating long term (>2 Years) overseas assignments.

Some of the common requirements for visiting ore extended stays in other countries are:
- No open ended visits. You generally must have a return ticket.
- Periodic "Resetting" of your residency "Clock". Even living as an ex-patriot, many countries require that you leave the country periodically (Often every 3 months) and spend a certain number of days (often 3 days) outside of the country.
- If you are visiting for vacation, there is often a maximum stay.
- If you state that you are going for Business, be prepared for additional scrutiny. Most countries want to ensure you aren't taking a job from a local. I've almost been denied entry to Canada because of a one day visit for work. When I explained that I was supporting my local comrades in generating new local business, the allowed my visit. I doubt you are going to get an extended work visa to play on-line poker.

Here is the UK we are crying out for US poker players. Because poker isnt taxable, and all our public services are free at point of use (i.e. health service) then what we really really really need is a bunch of layabouts who wont pay tax and will then get to use our services.

Good luck with all those applying. The government recently decided it was shifting its focus from bringing in doctors, scientists and engineers (LOL@ educated people - they are just ******s - doubt they could beat nl400 ldo) and towards attracting as many poker players to the country as possible. This was in recognition of the "2+2 government study" which showed that the consensus here was that 95% of poker pros were "sick talented" people who would be awesome for our country. I mean, knowing when to shove a5 off for 11 big blinds takes a ridiculous amount of intellegence.

We need poker players here in the UK, so please all come aboard.

Can I bring my wife and kids? I promise they won't work either but will use your social services. Maybe I can get a nice council house or something to tide me over for a few years.

Getting a long term visa for the UK might be a problem. Coming here for a few months as a tourist is really easy but staying here beyond that is a lot tougher.

If you have a workaround for that, we are deffo one of the best countries to come to for online poker.

Jesus dude, get over yourself. Americans aren't saying that they are superior. They are indicating that the US does represent a large pool of players that are now suddenly no longer readily available to the Market. If only the most determined players from the US are able to find ways play, that means that the recreational fish from a huge market won't be playing.

It cracks me up how when an American dares to state that this action will likely affect the industry they are met with an arrogant Anti-American rant.

You want Americans on that table... you need Americans on that table!

Only if they commit to training as poker players. Honestly, we have such a shortage of them here and it is hurting our growth figures. The IMF think our lack of poker players is easily our biggest problem.

We just dont want anyone who will help our economy in anyway. So make sure your wife isnt a doctor or anything ******ed like that. Most poker players could breeze through med school without even attending their classes. They would just turn up to the exams and get 100% because they are insanely clever.

Good luck.
