Via Pokernews:
"Hey Phil," Jean-Robert Bellande just said as he started a story he could hardly tell because of how hard he was already laughing.

"So I just put on Twitter that I'm really short in the Omaha eight-or-better tournament and that I'm sitting next to the best player in the world and this guy replies to me," Bellande added to his story while still having a hard time controlling his laughter.

Ivey was waiting for what was to come and Bellande said, "So he says, 'Tell Frankenberger I said hello,'" and the whole table bursted out in laughter.
Even Ivey, who was recently beaten heads up by Andy Frankenberger was laughing. The atmosphere is this tournament is great since nobody seems to feel any pressure from the money bubble yet. We are still 20 more spots away from cashing, something we probably won't get done today.

Now you just added to the insult by spelling his name wrong, lol...

About 25bb effective at the start iirc. They were roughly even in chips to start. Blinds raised a few hands in making it more like 20 effective.

The short answer - we don't. Obviously the better a player is the more likely they are to win bracelets, but it would be insane to assume that only good players win bracelets, or that there are no good players who don't have bracelets.

Tournament poker variance is huge. If you think the WSOP exists for the purpose of determining who the best players are, you're deluded. Go play 20,000 online MTTs and see if you still think the best players always win over a 1,000-game or even a 5,000-game sample.

Conversely you could make the argument that all the "sick live pros" are nothing more than fish on a heater. If Phil Ivey's or Phil Helmuth's lifetime achievements in the live arena are indicative of absolutley nothing in terms of absolute skill, then anyone can claim that any one pro's success is completely based on dumb luck.

I'm actually sick and tired of the following:

Recognized NVG loved Pro wins a tourney: "It's 100% skill and they are God and this is evident in their 30 tourney wins"
Intelligent Avid Player/Pro wins a tourney: "Fish on heater, a monkey could win 10 tournies in a row, go play online 100,000,000 tournies and then talk to me"

It's the same canned responses every time. Even when a player has good explanations and rationalizations behind unconventional moves, people don't even want to hear it, axe is already in the car and they are out for blood. And quit comparing live MTT's to online MTT's; just by the fact that the sample size is miniscule relative to online MTT's, live mtt's are completely different in nature to online tournies.

So he did win the first live mtt he ever played in 2010. That was the pro heavy WPT Legends of Poker. Helmuth never won a WTP. He then went on to win the WPT player of the year. If that wasn't impressive enough he won back to back wsop bracelet since then and the premier league on the side where is competed with all the best players in the world. I'm kinda impressed with his short hall of fame carrier, however he does it.

Methinks we got some successful online cash game players who are a little jealous of these live pros -EV plays in tournaments. Why the hate? Yeh they are far richer than you, get sponsored, get free t-shirts, and are multi-millionaires. But in the long run we'll all be dead anyway.
