I met him in Vegas in November. He took a piece of me in the Monster Stack circut event at PH. I kept in contact with him. We discussed poker and both of us being from the midwest, frequent some of the same tournaments. He was set to play the main having won a satellite seat few months back. From what I had gathered, he was very much loved by everyone he knew.

RIP Matty Ice.

Didn't know him but have played with him a couple times. Just saw him in the Pavilion room like 4 days ago. So crazy.

Anyone dying that young is a tragedy. RIP

I seen text messages from his friend with him that night and he did not know the girl he went to his room with. They met in the RIO. She wasn't in the room when he was found and neither was his valuables.

Anyone have actual info re: what we know / don't know at this point? So suggestion is that he went back to his room with a woman that was either unknown to him (before they met) or to his friends...?

And then he was found dead, with the woman long gone and his valuables missing? Any intel as to what valuables these were? Phone? Laptop? Jewelry? Cash? Whether she's involved or not, there's no way this woman's pic isn't all over security cameras.

Ordinarily I'd say 'let's wait to see what comes out from law enforcement and media before starting to speculate', but LV media has a well-known reputation for burying/suppressing details relating to crime and suicide for fear of affecting tourism, so I'm grateful for any info whether confirmed or not, as long as accompanied by the proper context.

I saw a news piece on things like this happening very often in other countries. I can't find the video unfortunately. It seems likely they can figure out who she was from the security cameras. Very sad story though.

They just busted a strip club here in Vegas not long ago that had a habit of drugging whales.

It's a big holiday, the WSOP in town . I'll bet some others were drugged this weekend.

What kind of drug are they using that can kill a 26 year old man at doses small enough to slip in undetected to a drink?

even if this unknown woman robbed the guy that doesn't necessarily mean that she had anything to do with his death.

GHB could do this. Rohypnol. Quite a few as far as I am aware.

liquid ghb. this is what's known as "trick-rolled" .

i have a police report posted on another vegas board when this happened to me -- luckily I was just fine the next morning, and they arrested the girls and I got my watch back (among other things).

It's very common, the problem is most people feel so stupid about it they don't report it and just chalk it up as an expensive lesson.

sucks to hear he passed away though, RIP.

Don't want to derail this sad thread, but as someone who experienced this first-hand, can you describe the experience? What's the last thing you remember? Presumably you didn't just fall unconscious but rather continued to operate with the required motor skills (even though you may not remember doing so) until you were sitting/lying down somewhere, where you presumably passed out. How long were you out and what were your first thoughts upon waking?
I have several guy friends who claim they are sure this happened to them, but I've always been cynical, figuring they just drank more than they thought and blacked out. But maybe this happens with way more frequency than people think?

Based on what I've heard Vegas hookers charging, I'd imagine this would have to be like a tier 4 hooker to even bother with the risk of a scam like this?

We made it as far as back to my room and actually started having intercourse, before I could feel myself like falling in and out of awareness (hard to describe). At that time I had never done any drugs (tried pot one time in highschool -- my how things have change ) but when I woke up that morning and my body felt the way it did, I knew it wasn't just from drinking. I went downstairs right away, and first thing they did was a pee test to confirm any drugs left in my system. Then CSI came to my room, fingerprinted etc. I think they probably took it much more seriously because of the amount of money that I won and also the liability they had. My host saw me leave the club w/ the girl and tried to get security to call my room 3x and convince them it wasn't going to end well but they never did more than call. They figured because i had the majority of my money on account at the cage I was safe -- they were wrong.

I wasn't trying to pick up a hooker, thought i was just legit hooking up w/ a hot girl because i had a VIP table and bottle service -- so wasn't like i was purposely putting myself in that situation either. It's crazy. Really sad to hear he passed away from it. Just doesn't seem fair.

Firstly RIP to Matthew.

Secondly it happened to me too a few years back, one minute I'm drunk but coherent and the next I am a literal mess unable to speak or walk. I had to be rushed to hospital and put on a drip. The security that helped me told the person I was with that it was a common practice with people they think have money (I was with a group of well known poker players). But the weird thing was after waking up from it the hospital staff and police refused to admit/believe I was drugged and put it down to alcohol intake, which is complete bollocks as although I was drunk I was not in anyway paralytic before I entered the strip club (Sapphires or something) and I only had 1 drink in there and literally instantly I couldnt walk/speak.

I was at table with highly intoxicated Norwegian that had black eye from previous night's festivities. He went to club, made out with girl, he suggests they go back to his room, she asks if her brother can drive them. Ends with three dudes beating him up and mugging him.

Be careful out there, boyz!

In case anyone else was confused as I was, this is not Matthew Haugen, another poker player with a nearly identical name.

Sad story though. Careful out there, guys.
