The show doesn't have much chance. You need high stakes and entertaining personalities.

Most of the entertaining personalities can't afford high stakes anymore.

Most of the high stakes players are looking at their watch to randomize their preflop folding time ranges.

There's no potential sponsorship value to be gained by getting yourself out there so players have no incentive to play on TV and show their hole cards other than ego, and they can twitch stream for free against anyone they want to play, instead of facing end bosses.

If they put JRB in charge or organizing the game to get high stakes and interesting people, Greg Merson gets butthurt about being excluded.

Just don't see it ever re-capturing the old days.

While I agree that the old days will never be recaptured, it could still make for a very entertaining cash game. The old formula of mixing in some rich whales with gameble looking to play unconventionally (loved Mike Baxter) with the seasoned high stakes pros was terrific, and could still make for some non-GTO play for big money. Beyond that, is anyone else like me getting oversaturated with watching Twitch streams? The chance to watch high stakes played out live and including some well known pros is especially appealing to me now.

Some of the recent games on PAD or Triton Cash Games with Solomon, Kirk, JRB, and/or Tony G have been very entertaining. The key is to always have one big action player and then the rest of the lineup matter much less, but ofc that's the hard part for organizers.

They approached me about playing on the show. I asked them who else had committed and it didn’t seem like an interesting group to me. Plus they just wouldn’t challenge me.

Look, I live in relative anonymity. Goes back to my days as a secret agent with MI6. Anyhow, it would have to be the right situation for me to play on television. And to play for money, well, I do that already and live a nice life because of it.

Televised poker turned the televised players into stars, when they had just been run of the mill poker players before. So the new series could make some new stars. The ideal mix would be some new potential stars (Garrett, Matt Kirk, Leon T) some experienced already highly televised players, (like Hellmuth, Esfandiari) and some rich amateur fish with an interest in poker (like, say, Bilzerian or Negreanu!) and others like Isildur1 and Gus Hansen who are so enjoyable to watch. I just hope it doesn't end up boring new school poker robots.

If everyone is Covid tested and then quarantined/locked down throughout the play ala NBA and UFC they should be able to run a regular game.

Looking at Vegas reopening too early, it's more like, if they have got money, they can play.

The UFC doesn’t really have a bubble, that’s why there is a Covid related cancellation every week right now. The NBA bubble works very well but something like that would be way too expensive for HSP.

They might just test players before the first day of taping and ask them to self-quarantine for the duration. But even that might be a stretch?

For me, the appeal of HSP was equal parts personality and action. With that in mind, if they haven't already picked lineups and taped the sessions, I hope they're able to strike a nice balance between action players and interesting characters.

I hope to see some old faces like Dwan, Ivey, PA, and Gus. Hopefully this will give a platform for some of the newer players as well. If it's done through PokerGo then I don't think it will have much reach beyond the immediate poker community, but maybe they'll cut a deal with a network to air it on cable.
