Penn Entertainment are just making a 'justice invoved, equity focused' appointment here. In New York State's newly legal weed industry, the people granting the licences are looking to prioritize giving a licence to people who were convicted of breaking the law by selling weed when it was still illegal. I believe the New York Times approves of this decision, seeing it as a step towards progress in social justice.

By giving contracts/entering into a partnership with a bankrupt gambling degenerate, surely Penn Entertainment are just doing exactly the same thing -- attempting to redress the balance by ensuring somebody who was once a victim of the previously illicit gambling regime now gets the opportunity to benefit from that new wave of permissive legislation in various states.

Sure, Portnoy might have dropped the occasional n-bomb. Perhaps he made the occasional off-colour joke about women. How many illicit weed dealers have never been guilty of such crimes against humanity? If they deserve a second chance, surely Portnoy does?

Caveat: I once watched a video of Portnoy reviewing a pizza joint. Aside from that, I know nothing at all about him. The only sport I've ever followed has been heavyweight boxing and I haven't seen that for years and years, so I have no skin in this game. I'm not vouching for his character here, I'm just confused as to how the New York Times can regard one thing as so right while something that seems functionally identical is portrayed as so wrong.

Just betting firms? Try also the PGA Tour as I believe it was at the New Orleans event where the Barstool logo appeared on a banner of sponsors for the pre-tournament pro-am.

How this wasn't called out by ANYONE is pretty astounding considering what a piece of garbage Portnoy is.
