actually, reading up on the history of the famous cons and con artists is quite interesting, of course they are total scumbags, but it certaintly takes a talent to pull this kind of thing off

It's not an either or situation. You can have disdain for the scumbag while also having little sympathy for someone who acted stupidly and should have known better. The whole, "never blame the victim" pathology always struck me as ridiculous. If you act foolishly and do stupid things that have predictably bad outcomes, you don't deserve the same sympathy as someone who is victimized through no fault of their own. It eliminates the whole concept of agency and responsibility. If you get shitfaced and ride around the subway in the Bronx at 2 am with a massive gold chain around your neck, nobody should feel sorry for you when you get robbed. This doesn't make the thief that robs you any less of a scumbag. Amazing how this is hard to understand for many.

As already mentioned, it’s ridiculous that most of the early comments had zero condemnation for the scammer. You guys keep acting like there was a balanced approach to the situation and there wasn’t at all. It was all anti-Dan and pro scammer victim blaming.

I saw two posts and one of them predicted multiple pages of victim blaming which did come to fruition.
And yes, it helps to hear people condemn the bad guy. What a novel concept.
