Why the WSOP ladies event could be coming to an abrupt end Why the WSOP ladies event could be coming to an abrupt end

The Biden administration is changing the rules on passports which permit transgender and non-binary people to be identified with an "X" under gender. This goes into affect April 11. What this means is a simple change on a person's passport. If a man wants an X as his gender it will be permitted same goes for a woman or any person which doesn't want to be designated. This means the WSOP must allow anyone to enter the Ladies tournament identified with an X at the normal buy-in and not the 10K penalty for men. You can't penalize a transgender or non-binary person and say they must pay $10K. If they are denied entry under ladies buy-in figure they can sue and they will win. The key change here is the designation on government issued ID. In the past if a man dressed up in women's clothing as a goof they would be still be charged $10K. Now you can't discriminate. A man could come in dressed up in a suit and tie. When he gets to the front of the registration line and shows their passport and say I wish to enter the ladies tournament what is the cashier going to do when see the "X". Someone is going do this and challenge the WSOP. It might not happen this year because it takes time to get a passport and law doesn't change till the 4/11/22. Next year is a different story. Women can complain all they want but gender neutral is going to be the law.

I didn’t plan on getting a passport but now I know what I’m doing this year…get entry into one wsop tournament! Thank you News777!

Please cite applicable laws.

Also, the event is listed as a $10k buy in where ladies get a discount to $1k. Not a 1k with a “penalty”

Why not have a transgender event? Or an LGBTQ event?

One joke.

Yeah, this really is the key. If whatever your government-issued ID says is the determinant, then anyone officially listed as female get the discount. All other designations – including the X – would simply not get the discount.

Also, I'm reply #8. I set the O/U on the total number of replies before a mod has to warn against polititarding at 13.5.

This is a complete non-issue. I'm willing to wager that no one is going to change their gender on their passport just to get a discount on the WSOP Ladies Event. If you're really that committed to misogyny, you might as well just pay the $10k.

I mean you don’t really have to read past my first reply to see how silly I made his rant look. Everything beyond is just going to be more rants.

What's the O/U on when the thread will be closed?

$9k “savings” is nowhere near large enough incentive for someone to pretend to be transgender. Can you imagine having your family/friend/coworker learn that you decided to be transition? Stop assuming that people choose to become transgender just for some nominal amount of benefit.

Trans women have always been permitted to play the Ladies Event without penalty. This doesn't change anything.

Again my point is any man can play the tournament if he has an X designation on his passport because that person can identify with any gender they want. They would be have to be treated as a transgender. As a matter a fact I think many transgenders will adopt the X on their passport therefore all with an X will be permitted with play with the discount. Here is my guess to not the rock the boat the WSOP will give the X person the discount if they complain. They won't disclose it. If a man sits in the tournament all the women will laugh at him for paying the $10k not knowing that he paid the same as them. Could the state of Nevada say this violates the spirt of the law. I guess, but why open up a can of worms. Why put yourself in a position where you are going to have to pay financial damages.

So you started the thread acting like these were all facts, now you’re saying you’re guessing?

Currently, the rules of the tournament say if the gender on your ID is F you get a discount, if it’s not you don’t. Do you have anything from the WSOP that says they’ll handle X (not specified or another gender identity) differently?

Not long, at this rate - the very next post after yours started the thread down a "transgender is a mental illness" derail that will get it locked if it continues, and likely result in infractions and/or bans (in addition to the one I already gave out to a repeat offender).

I'm sure there are some lovely places on the Internet where you guys can debate the pros and cons of transgender people (and I'm pretty sure that's the preferred term over "transgenders"), but this isn't one of them. This post needs no replies; if you want to discuss moderation, there's a designated thread for that purpose.

You're way behind on this idea.

Being behind on a old, even tired trend happens quite a bit on 2+2. I'm sure I've been guilty of it myself.

For example, consider this from a thread about poker slang in 2021...

Of course, I've heard someone yell "go back to Foot Locker" at a football game – AND get laughs – within the last five years. Nothing surprises me anymore.

A strong candidate for the most pointless thread of 2022

I literally cannot stop laughing at the OP who thinks this is worthy. When will nutters stop allowing themselves to get inflamed about stupid, rare corner cases that do not matter?

Don't forget being able to access the ladies' bathroom, and get up to all sorts of mischief...

Whenever I have to renew my ID cards I'd probably put down X to reduce metadata. Why give the government and corps more information than they need.

Not that I intend to play the ladies event any more. Those days are behind me, but we had a good run.

Fyi op, most nonbinary people don’t want to be identified as female (or male for that matter). That’s sort of the point of being nonbinary.
