Ghosts at the Table: Riverboat Gamblers, Texas Rounders, Roadside Hucksters, and the Living Legends Who Made Poker What It Is Today - Des Wilson

Page 227:
With Fowler, it was Valium, taken throughout the day and evening.

Crandall Addington says, "I sat right next to Hal and he had his pills out there on the table. Of course a lot of guys used to get up and go sniff and snort in the bathroom in those days, but he had some Valium and some amphetamines, the real strong ones, and he actually put these on the table by his chips. I really believe that much of the time he didn’t have a clue what he was doing."

This thread turned off on a tangent about how Hellmuth is seen by some as a disgrace to poker for showing up at big events, getting photo ops, shaking the winner's hand, and introducing younger players "into the club." (Despite his UB history, which has tarnished his legacy in the eyes of many).

I noticed this tendency of Phil's myself, covering the One Drop and also at the HOF induction ceremony.

In this particular case, while Phil did kinda photobomb (actually, this is in the "selfie with Max Headroom" category, but whatever), he was clearly in no position to shake Liv's hands. But his expression indicates that he would if he could. Which I thought was hilarious.

Maybe I've been researching poker too much these past few months, but when I see things that relate in an off-kilter way to other topics, they amuse me. I've been told many things I write are unfunny, but I write them anyway.
So it means trying to get into a photo of someone else?

yeah, photobomb is that.. but the backstory is more interesting. It was not even a photobomb technically... and my point was more on the humorous side, but when you try and explain dry humor it takes effort... back to work, trying to finish final edits on a chapter about Ivey and edge sorting.
