In a recent episode of "Run it back", Remko Rinkema and Phil Galfond talked about poker-related Bitcoin bad beats. At one point, Remko had 7 or 8 Bitcoin in his Sealswithclubs account, and pissed away what was very little money at the time. Galfond didn't provide much detail, but he played a high stakes game back in the spring of 2020 and either the match was played or payments were made in BTC, so the game turned out to be much, much bigger with hindsight.

Both of those stories are kind of underwhelming, and I'm sure there are so many better stories than this. I mean, there have to be guys who played what was $ NL5K+ back then in Bitcoin, and the games look colossal if you factor in what Bitcoin is worth now, right?

Do any of you have stories you want to share?

I'm the bitcoin pizza guy AMA. Seriously tho do you just find every old story that involves any amount of money fascinating after you've adjusted it for inflation?

Not a badbeat, so kind of off-topic, but this recent tweet came to mind

That's a good one:

Quote:
If a player is a 'no show' or their are less than 5 players, actual players and / or opponents will be 'made up' of computer opponents. Any Bitcoin prize that a 'computer' player should win will be equally divided by the number of actual registered players and equally returned to each participant.

(...)

Total Prize Pool 1200 bitcoins (4 'real' players)

1st - dwdollar - 600 BTC

2nd - theymos - 325 BTC

3rd - BitcoinFX - 175 BTC

4th - Computer6

5th - Computer5

6th - Computer3

7th - Computer2

8th - DannyM - 100 BTC

9th - Computer4

10th - Computer1

As there were only 4 'real' players and 3 of us finished in the top 3, we agreed that instead of doing a 4 way split on the 4th place prize (won by Computer6), that DannyM should receive the entire 4th place prize.

Once a Zimbabwean dude won the WSOPZ ME but when the tournament was over the winning prize was worth less than the buy-in was.

I played a cash game in Tesla stock which was big at the time, like $60 a share, like 5kNL pretty much, I guess looking back it was actually a much bigger game.

I guess this thread might as well be closed?

So far, all the responses except one only helped me extend my ignore list.

I agree the above posts were pretty immature and mean. I would leave it open as I'm sure there are some pretty interesting stories here.

My son bought 1000 bitcoin in 2010 @ .88 cents a coin. He had offshore accounts that used bitcoin. I would not use bitcoin for some reasons. He did not stay on top of it and lost his passwords. He has tried everything to retrieve them with no luck. I think this may have happened to many people.

Not sure if truly a bad beat, but I had heard that Doug Polk had to sell some BC in order to make sure he had enough money to play Negreanu. Despite winning over $1,200,000 in the match he would have made more money if he didn't play Negreanu at all as BTC went up something like 4-5x during the time of the match.
