Ashman- run 70 miles, 24 hours prop bet Ashman- run 70 miles, 24 hours prop bet

Read both parts of the blog. Pretty sick story. Though I am against betting this big with friends. Awesome that Ashman really did succeed in running this distance, but I guess their friendship won't be as before.

Biggest problem with this thing is that Ashman could have gotten serious health problems because of this and in the end money doesn't matter as much as life does.

I'm alarmed at this bet and the life changing life problems that could have been experienced by the runner.

Serious damage to his health could have occured after 40-50 miles in 1 day and i pray that he does not try this again.

It is not worth risking your health to win this money.

what good is this money if your life is ruined in the process and you run yourself into the hospital?

Ashman is a semiprofessional wrestler. His bodies is used to extremes like this.

Walking pace is 3-4 miles per hr. 20x3.5 = 70 miles.
Not read all the thread, did he have to run?
Whatever, if you cover 70 mile running or walking, its still some achievment.
Not much chance we'd do it.

Lol there are a few risks I wouldn't take for $300k, but trying to run for 18 hours on a treadmill is definitely not one of them.

Wrestling is and has always been an amateur sport. AFAIK, the only way for a wrestler to become a professional is to go the WWE or MMA route. But neither are wrestling, and are not what Ashton has been training all his life to do.

you can compete in the olympics as a wrestler afaik, though I've always assumed those guys have to do other jobs on the side to sustain income

Correct, the Olympics is the most prestigious amateur spots competition in the world. And you're also correct that they have other sources of income because, by definition, amateurs don't get paid.

For those saying something serious with his health could have happened, what exactly are you referring to?

Someone young like him who has trained as a wrestler in the not-too-distant past has almost zero heart worries doing this.

If anything, his legs would simply give out and he'd have to lay around for awhile.

If I'm missing something please fill me in. (seriously, not being a dick)

One thing that is alarming with this bet is that the "ashman" was encouraged to run for 70 miles in one day. Even after you go over all of the devastating impacts this sort of activity has on your body, you still have other problems that the runner could endure.

For example, there have been numerous instances where runners in excellent shape run over 40 miles indoors on a treadmill and then experience vertigo once they stop the run and step off the treadmil. This is very troubling and it hurts my heart to read about stories such as these.

Will people please stop talking about how "zomg he put his health on the line!!!!" For a young fit guy even running 70 miles isn't going to have drastic long term consequences on his health.

I like how he spends two pages trying to show us how guilty he is and he wish it had never happened - yet when given a chance to stop it can only think about the money. It destroys all credibility your apology may have had. Can't you see that?

Also your writing is poor. You may impress a few people who don't have English as their first language (including Americans/Brits) but your writing style is straight out of a dodgy 1950's novel. The dramatic pauses, endless romanticising and irreverant subject changes feel really out of place, especially for poker story-telling.

I get the impression you're a bit of a naive sociopath with not much real world experience, and I look forward to reading about how shady your involvement with Girah was.

This isn't really that ridiculous of a bet. 70 miles over 24 hrs is 2.92 mph which is a little slower than walking pace for an avg person. I just back from yosemite doing hikes at altitude with lots of uphills and was avging over 3 mph. If I were doing it I'd be more concerned with fatigue, dehydration and chaffing than simply being able to do it

70 miles in a one day.....Thats like averaging under 3 miles per hour. Thats basically walking all day. If you ran even 10-20 of those miles you would have plenty of time to stop and rest. It seems like the guy was a fool to take the bet, Im sure if he is even in remotely decent shape it wouldnt be hard at all.
