Bernie bros going to bat for Trump is a hard turn I didn't see coming.

Actually, I am not that surprised.

It isn't the bigots he's pandering to. I'm pretty sure it's the opposite.

Just ignore it. Calling something racist has turned into a meme.
Racism and bigotry are becoming more mainstream under trump so you are seeing more people call it out. This isnt hard unless you want to be deliberately ignorant and uneducated. Which a lot of this forum enjoys.

Your second paragraph is ofcourse absolutely incorrect. Attempting to normalize the racism/bigotry isn’t just a “likely majority of people aren’t paying attention” thing. Covid-19 is literally the number one topic on every form of media across the entire country and the world. Lol at downplaying the significance of trying to create and blame an “other”.

When it comes to racist dog whistling and bigotry in media people seem to want to forget that advertising and PR are billion dollar industries because representation both positive and negative MASSIVELY influence people at large.

What trump seemingly fails to realise is that antagonising china is probably not the smartest thing to do right now, given your supply chain issues in the US.

that's way too far advanced for his thinking. he can only think about what he needs right now, and that is someone to blame for his massive failure. he was still going hard on the wall at the beginning of this in late Janury/early feb or so, but realized it can't be blamed on Mexicans so he pivoted.

I'm 100% certain GHWBush, Clinton, GWBush, Obama, Romney, McCain, and every other serious presidential candidate within our life time would have stopped calling the virus "Chinese" once people point out it could incite racist sentiments.

But I never once doubted Trump is more than happy to keep calling the virus "Chinese."
George Bush killed a million Iraqis but at least he wouldnt have used an insensitive term. Love me I'm a liberal.

tell you what, when the Dems actually provide some aid to more than a very narrow part of the population then I will be right behind them complaining about terminology.

nobody is going to bat for Trump. this whole racism stuff. this whole discourse tone BS has been used for at 50 years (proly longer) to distract and divide.

I mean, point out that tons of people dont have health care, are gonna lose their jobs, and are gonna lose the roofs on their heads and look at the response from yourself and vinividi.

Terrible analogy. One is using the term Jew to describe a negative stereotype of Jewish people and the other is attempting to remind people what government killed a lot of people.

We don't call African elephants "African" because the "African" government killed lots of people, so this seems like an indictment of your dumbass analogies.

Everyone should call the virus the thing they hate. So Trump and the deplorables can call it the "Chinese virus." Liberals will call it the "Trump virus." Iranians will call it the "Zionist virus." Indians will call it the "Pakistani virus" and vice versa. North Korea will call it the "American virus."

I think they are calling it the American virus in more places than North Korea. I think "China-America-Joint-Coöperation-Plague-With Support-From-Partner-Countries" still works best.

I'd call it the Trump Pandemic but that's just me.

I think China needs to take accountability for its food and heath conditions, especially in their wet markets. Diseases can originate in any part of the world, but we should try our best to stop them from happening. It's not like China is a third-world country anymore. At the very least, they can stop eating bats, even if this disease didn't originate from one, they are wrought with diseases. That said, I don't know how calling it the China/Wuhan virus is going to solve that. It is probably having an adverse affect in that it will make China deny it even more.

It's also possible both Trump and the Chinese government are using each other as scapegoats while maintaining cordial relationships behind the scenes with plans to mend relations after the 2020 general election.

There will be a time to take China to account.

Now is not the time.

And it's definitely not the time to sow divisions between Americans just so shirk political responsibility.

So why do you want to call it the "chinese virus" when it has a perfectly good name "covid19" already? Why insist on using nonstandard, nonscientific terminology?
