They only failed because their majority is ultra thin.
Defectors were literally 3 people, one of them not seeking re election.
It was embarrassing because their current speaker of the house has no clue how to do his job, and you can add it to the list of ****ups at "governing", sure.
But the idea of having a party who doesn't want to legislate rather it's mostly focused on culture war winning (owning the libs and whatnot) is extremely exhilarating and pleasant to see, not doing actually anything of substance is close to the best possible outcome you can hope from congress.
When they act, in 90-99% of cases the life of citizens get worse.
