What happens when republicans appoint their next sc justice? What happens when republicans appoint their next sc justice?

it took a war and the greatest financial crash in 80 years for the democrats to get 51 senate seats. it might never happen again barring another catastrophe.

assume for discussion that another lib judge bites the dust prior to 2020. what is on the new courts agenda?

In 2008 the Democrats had 60 Senate seats (for a few months). We had a majority of Senators less than five years ago.

I was correcting your claim that it took a misbegotten war and a big financial crash to get a majority of Senators. We actually got to a majority of Senators in the 2006 election. In 2008 we got to a supermajority of 60. Not making a comment on your main question here about a next GOP Supreme Court nominee.

Change in demographics alone will be enough imo. People keep forgetting that Trump's win was a major suckout. It's not like he wafflecrushed Clinton...That's just the narrative Trump pushes because he is not all there mentally and his cultlike base isn't either. They literally believe the Ds got destroyed in 2016. Run that same election today or the day after the actual election and Clinton very well could easily win. Nate Silver knows his **** and his numbers are probably closest to reality that anyone can predict. It's just numbers...

I agree it took a monumental ****up to end up with Obama after Bush, I don't agree it'll take all that for D dominance in the future. The 2016 election alone, soberly viewed, is evidence enough to support my view, in addition to aforementioned and inevitable shift in demographics that favor the Democrats

Same as now. They have this down to a science. Beat down the door for the agenda perpetually, relentlessly, and without care for consequence. I think it's that simple

2014? Not so sure about that but OK. My knowledge here is severely limited so I dunno. Just seems counterintuitive. I understand that economically we still feel the effects of the collapse and there is law that will sort of give a permanence to that, but I'm not so sure voters notice nor care enough that it gives reason to believe that it "doesn't contradict OP"

senate != presidency

you need the senate to confirm a supreme court justice.

if republicans can hold the senate, there will never be another new lib supreme court justice.

the republicans had to run a pedophile to lose Alabama's seat by 1%

State Roe Vs. Wade challenges will be the headline grabber.

I don't see Roe being overturned by the Supreme Court, but they will utilize 10th amendment for States that outlaw the practice.

Currently, I think John Roberts will uphold Roe when the State laws make their way to the Supreme Court.
