We could also just not have voter IDs and tell MAGA chuds to go pound sand.
That is unlikely to accomplish anything except them staging another revolt, with likely much worse results than the last time.

Dont think this is true and would need to see some aggregated data to show there has been a massive change in UK drinking culture, which this would be.

Most people have id

Plus any tiny attempt at googling will tell there has been big changes in drinking culture. More price and health related than ID I'd guess but i'm not doing a phd in it.

When I go out or walk through town on Saturday night, any change in drinking culture seems totally conspicuous by its absence.

Maybe. I suspect you're very wrong but what i do know is that if you're in weatherspoons without an id then dont be suprised when they sweep the whole pub asking for IDs from anyone young looking.

So chez.

Yea but any change that is not less is fairly cosmetic.

I go out or walk through town there are plenty of very young people drunk.

I have seen reports of change in culture but its utterly and totally removed from my lived experience and from interacting with young people who seem to have relatively the same exact attitudes I had at their age.

It's not cosmetic. My lived experience is of huge change. And I drink with young people a fair bit (they're getting older now.)

but it doesn't get away from the exclusion from your friends at wetherspoons/etc if you dont have an id.

that sounded awfully nazi like.
its not, its what is needed for a country to work.
everyone needs to have id and be registered.
I should have taken formulas advice. I think it cannot work otherwise.

I'm not sure about the UK but in the US Gen Z is drinking a lot less than older generations. Low and non-alcoholic drinks have grown in popularity as well.

Seems to have fallen in the UK as well

Quote:
Drinking trends in the UK change all the time. They also vary by age, gender, and where people live.

...

Around 20% of the population don’t drink at all – and this figure is increasing among young people in particular. Among those who do drink, patterns of consumption vary enormously:

higher earners are more likely to drink than those on lower incomes
older people are more likely to drink regularly
men are more likely to ‘binge drink’ than women (though this is less the case among the young)
Most of the alcohol sold in the UK is bought by people who drink heavily. Indeed, the very heaviest drinkers – who make just 4% of the population - consume around 30% of all the alcohol sold in the UK. It has recently been estimated that about a quarter of the profits made by the alcohol industry arise from these very heavy drinkers.

While youth drinking has been falling steadily, consumption among older people has not changed at the same rate. People aged 55-64 are more likely than anyone else to drink at higher risk levels, and are least likely not to drink at all. It may be that a generation who drank heavily in the 1990s and 2000s is bringing those habits into middle age, with potentially serious consequences for their long-term health.

This is going to vary quite a bit and be situationally dependent.

Might be secret shopper fears at play too. I've gotten asked for ID in the states by cashiers that have apologized for asking.

I am starting to grey but I still look pretty young and I get carded occasionally. When out drinking with younger people sometimes they've just wanted their ID and not mine.

I'm under 40 and no grey but I don't think I could be mistaken for under 21. I think stores are more likely to have a strict carding policy than bars but I've not been asked for ID at stores as well. Chain grocery seems like the most common place that I get asked.

Depends on the individual establishment and the jurisdiction. Many still make me show, at the age of 53.

In some areas it is a law that they have to card everyone, no matter what, and the alcohol control department will do sting operations where they send an employee there, and if he is not carded, the business is issued a fine.

In more relaxed places the rule is if you look under 30 you get carded.
