Over 300,000 in December record number again
The next 10 months will probably be even higher as if your thinking of coming come now as if Trump wins it will no longer be wide open

Why do you think they are doing this, as it's obvious to any political advisor and analyst that it costs them votes?

I predict the appearance of Kyle Rittenhouse or the creation of a new one at this event.

The Democrats are scrambling because it’s hurting them in the polls and the Republicans are not agreeing to much because it helps them in the polls

Watching Real Time last night and Adam Schmidt even said the problem is you have international students graduating from cal Tech and want to stay and you send them back while ……

The Dems proposal seems very weak

But the president could use executive authority to do A LOT more without any need of Congress, why isn't Biden doing that?

Your guess is as good as mine as it’s killing him politically. Pandering to the extreme left of his party . Sadly he is not enforcing laws on the book

Biden certainly isn't pandering to the "extreme left of his party". lol.

i am the "extreme left" of his party. the border deal the dems are currently pushing that Biden was agreeing to sign and the republicans torpedoed is to the RIGHT of trump.

We must be looking at a different deal

I never said Biden is pandering to the extreme left on this topic.

I am genuinely asking why he is claiming he will "secure the border" if a deal is signed, when he could already do a lot more using executive powers, to fix the problem, or at least make it similar to how it was under Obama and Trump (which had leeringly similar numbers)

The number of people crossing the border has almost nothing to do with who is President and the business interests want them here anyway. The Republicans just want the position of those people in society to be harder, so they pay taxes and don't get benefits, and so they are more precarious and more accepting of low wages and bad working conditions.

it actually is , because unlike a lot of other stuff happening which the president can't control, the border can be secured more or less depending on executive will.

for example the current quarrel with Texas, Biden could say "thank you great state if Texas to help us control the border" instead of "please SCOTUS can you let us remove the wire Texas puts in the river so more people can come in?"

He can say whatever he wants. The idiot Trump said what you wanted to hear, but that's really good enough. He built some wall. Biden built some wall. You just want someone saying stuff that sounds tough, but you also want people working in factories, washing dishes in restaurants, picking your fruit, killing chickens you eat and you don't want any extra costs passed on to you anyway. A little razor wire in the river won't do anything as far as overall migration goes, but you do get to watch a few toddlers die.

If he identifies as such he should stop. If you're not in favor of open borders, you're not a libertarian. He seems to hate freedom.

not sure where you got the impression I was against open borders (at absolute 0 welfare even if they work of course, until they have paid ok net enough taxes to sorta buy the club membership, and of course abolishing ius soli), if you follow the messages I was asking why Biden is suiciding politically on that topic (because the median voter is for border controls).

Those things aren't being for open borders. Abolishing jus soli is downright despicable. And yes, every country that doesn't have it is being despicable.

taxes and welfare?

Here's what the libertarians say about immigration: https://www.cato.org/white-paper/fis...cutive-summary

The fiscal impact is positive.

Club membership? Lol. Like almost every US citizen, I just got mine by being born here.

Biden is not for open borders of course. And idiot Republicans just think he is because he hasn't savored the idea of toddlers dying in the razor wire. Biden admin has arrested migrants in record numbers. Trump loving ghouls just want their blood lust satisfied and to fight with their enemies. None of it affects the numbers significantly. It's all theater and identity politics.

fiscal impact of immigration in aggregate being positive doesn't mean those people trespassing the border are, because they aren't a random sample of immigrants, rather self selected to be way way worse than the median immigrant in terms of potential income.

the people contributing a lot on net come by plane with visas, have grad degrees/PhDs (or pursue them in the USA) and so on, and you know that.

we are way behind the time when "2 arms and 2 legs and a decent working attitude" were sufficient to be a net fiscal contributor.

which is ok, just take account of that, let them in, and don't give access to services paid for by other people taxes, until/unless they pay their share.

seasonal agricultural workers from Mexico existed since time immemorial, but they didn't get subsidized healthcare a while ago.

as for ius soli, why would you keep a mechanism for club membership that doesn't filter for quality? you co own something with someone else, why are you diluting your share unless you gain by doing so? if you want to do charity do it with your own resources, I don't understand why you want to use other people resources for your charity preferences

then what happens to them?

Because that goes against our basic values as a society. Big bronze lady out by the front entrance should have told you that.

there wasn't any welfare when the big lady was put there.

and the value of random adults was much higher for society, when you have empty land to fill in an agrarian society (after you genocide the previous occupiers because of "values").

btw it isn't bronze it's steel and copper

I absolutely do not agree with that. The people coming over are going to cook your food in restaurants, pick all your crops, kill the cows, chickens and pigs that you eat, and work in your factories. They are going to do the useful things in your society and do it at depressed wages because their legal status is tenuous and they are easy to exploit. And you are going to be richer because of that.

Because I don't own the Earth. I was just a person born here. And because I love freedom. If you don't want to pay taxes I don't give a ****. Just mind your own business and quit building walls and trying to murder people who cross imaginary lines.

they get compensated at market rates when they do, that's how you say thank you to market participants.

notice than in my model there is no tenuous legal status, as I said, I am for open borders.

and as I said I am for open borders at 0 welfare. so they should be allowed to come, work (or not, they aren't slaves), without anything paid by taxpayers given to them. No access to medicaid, unemployment insurance, food stamps, and so on, until they have paid their share (how much, we can discuss).

which btw in part is what the law already says, for ex you qualify for SNAP only after 5y legally in the country.

except it shouldn't be in years terms, rather in net fiscal contributions thresholds.

The money is a secondary issue. I don't think you have the right to not let people cross. If you don't want people to get welfare, that's separate and after the fact. If you don't like that part, then don't pay your taxes.
