I think we're in agreement or close to it. I would like to be the most immigrant friendly country on the planet. By a healthy margin. There needs to be some system behind it so we are bringing in what/who we need and where they're needed. We need to exclude obvious criminals and **** like that.

The simple obvious solution is to make it harder for people to come illegally but easier for them to come legally. This won't happen though.

There are millions and millions of people in South America who would love to have the opportunity to come to live and work in the US, but getting a visa can be a years long process for them and require jumping through all sorts of hoops.

Fine. Where are the immigrants staying right now? Don't feel like looking it up but a couple who had booked rooms for guests coming in to attend their wedding at $80/night had their reservations cancelled because the government was offering to pay $200/night. The government isn't going to put up 1 or 2 ppl in a room when it can hold 4 using cots. What do these people do all day? Where are they getting money from? What's the plan here, people, give them 40 acres and a mule and send them to the great plains?

This is unsustainable. Letting in millions w/ no plan can not work out well.

I’m not sure if you ever been to a big city so don’t take this the wrong way, but what a lot of cities do to create more livable space is to stack people on top of each other by creating building that are multiple stories tall. By doing this the amount of livable space is near limitless.

Agreed. We need to make the hoops to jump through to come here legally easier to jump through than it is to jump a wall.

Yeah that's too many people when that starts happening. In one of those currently.

In big cities, for low income people, these are called Projects. I doubt that you would want to live in one.

If given the choice I wouldn’t choose to live in a low income housing no matter if it is a building or a neighborhood.

I think the only fair recourse is for the federal govt and blue Eastern seaboard states to step up and devise safe modes of transport (air, plane, train) for the millions of immigrants to safely bypass Texas and travel to big blue sanctuary cities, such as Washington DC, NY and Chicago.

If only there was some sort of transportation infrastructure that allowed lots of people to drive to Chicago.

This whole immigration is just a giant mess.

I have a family member who traveled overseas. He met & married an Asian woman. They had to wait for over a year for her to come her legally. He spent a TREMENDOUS amount of his money traveling, hiring an attorney, filing out forms, doing everything legally.

So he has to wait, spend tens of thousands, jump through hoops, and non-citizen ILLEGAL immigrants get to just walk in?

If that is what it is now, so be it....but you can't have two sets of rules laws. If you do, eventually, people who follow the rules are going to think they are suckers for doing so.

To largely fix this, tighten up the borders 99%. Allow a lot of LEGAL immigration. Also, set up a temporary worker program. This has been done before in the past.

Certain industries are DESPERATE for workers, a lot of them can be low skill too. For example, there is a tremendous shortage of workers for nursing homes.

Why not allow foreign workers for needed industries, come into the country to work. Set this program up with strict rules:

1). work in an industry that needs workers (home health care, nursing homes, etc.)
2). Pass a criminal history check, pass a health check.
3). Have a sponsoring employer
4). They can then come in a legally work for a set period of time, say 6 months, 1 year maybe?
5). They pay some income taxes for working here.
6). They will be issued ID, need to check in with the government agency regularly, maybe every month?
7). At the end of their term, they have to go back to their home country.

If they can successfully do everything above, they can come back 6 months/1 year later.

Guest workers who do this several times can get extended work times. Guest workers who ALSO improve their work skills, get English proficiency, pay their taxes, study & pass citizenship test, maybe do some charity, pay an a substantial fee ($25K), can be eligible for permanent residency, perhaps even citizenship.

Those that want to serve in the military can get citizenship if they successfully complete their term of service (4 or 6 years?)

Why not let those who want to come here, come here.....but they have to work/earn it. Turn it from a lose/lose situation to a win/win?

Yeah, we have now 3 I think full time in house attorneys and all they do afaict is process green cards, visas bring family over etc. And everyone hire has probably already passed pretty decent background checks to get into college, work adjacent to DoD, NSF research etc.

After seeing a lot of red opinions with supposed illegal immigration where do most democrats stand currently? whats bidens policy going forward?

I heard the talking points of the last debate where

must come here legally with process - most
build the wall - most
deny sanctuary publics funding - christie
more borders troops/spending ( i think ) - most
if you come over here illegally and you birth child you both are not citizens - vivek

I am surprised nobody said to go after those who help or hire said individuals

if what you are saying is to get them process them in quicker and put them in job sectors that desperately need workers then I would like to see who agree and disagree with that

I wonder how difficult or ease that will be to set up, i assume there are similar things like this in USA and other countries

Biden ended the Trump era policy of purposely separating families at the border, sometimes here legally, in order to inflict cruelty on immigrants and asylum seekers.
