There were 0 guarantees except Putin's word. This 100% is essentially suggesting Putin can be trusted. We had several back and forth where I explained this cleary and succinctly. It doesn't get more straightforward than this.

You two have invented far more from far less so spare me your semantics arguments. You both know exactly what I'm saying and that it is true.

No, I'm not saying that. Ukraine should be given guarantees so that even if Russia is a threat they can fight back. The previous peace deal went out of its way to ensure that was not possible.

We have been over this. I laid it out extremely clearly then that article Victor posted laid it out even more clearly.

Nato is the best option but unlikely. Several European countries are giving guarantees to help if Russia invades again, but who knows how much that is worth.

It really doesn't matter at the moment though, Putin has no immediate plans to stop

It would have been extremely difficult. Ukraine also never had control of them despite them being in Ukraine. They were likely more danger to Ukraine than to Russia.
