anyone that watches the press conferences and thinks mcenany is "owning" or "destroying" the reporters is a massive tell that they aren't attached to reality.

she had a completely scripted question from that rightwing nutjob OANN network and still looked ****ing ridiculous.

she also didnt understand what a hypothetical was..

I guess ive been being (very very very) naive thinking there could be an objective talk about politics, objective/bias networks, left/right etc.

The objective non-biased fact is that she is a complete moron who tells verifiable lies every time she does a press conference.

Hope this helps.

What's your issue with my statement that I'm not surprised that you think Trump is great?

Because im not interested in politics...i was just interested in how CNN covers Trump.
But yes...i think Trump is great...and i do think CNN is disgusting. (ill grant u that!)

But im not from the usa so i think i can state those points...while being unbiased.

I only asked how Americans/2p2 perceives CNN...because to me...being from EU...its just absolutely ridiculous. Its like russian state tv...but then high tech.

I really do not want to offend u in any way...but do u perceive CNN as news?
Im sorry things get heated up a little! (my bad)

I don't watch CNN or read their web site so I can't really comment. I get CNN clips in my youtube suggestions sometimes and watch them, but I don't expect to be watching "straight news" when I do so, and I think the suggestions I get are more for opinion shows anyway, since I assume they are there because I watch things like Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel, etc. That said, based on what I've seen, I don't get what all the hate for CNN is about.

It's usually the same people criticising CNN as those criticising publications I've found to be fair, like the WaPo, so I don't really listen to them (note - negative coverage =/= bias. Trump gets negative coverage because he deserves it. Unbiased coverage can be negative, positive, or neutral).

Trump is a sociopathic, pathologically lying, demented narcissist - there is nothing great about him, so expect push back when you say things like that.

FWIW I am in the UK so I'm probably not your target audience for your questions anwyay.

But... you just... said that if... someone is not from the... USA... then they are not... biased...

He is... not... from the... USA... and... now you also say he... is... not the... target audience... so we should... not... really... listen... to what... he... has... to say...

You are...not... from the USA also... Hmm!!!

Anyway, I will add that your inability to detect if anyone else is lying is actually a quality that most here would find charming, so do not let it bother you if once in a while someone suggests that makes you naive. That is really just a form of admiration.

All the best...

He said himself he was not target audience, not me.

I cannot detect whos wright or wrong, im not into u.s politics.

I am not into politics at all actually, i was just here for how CNN, in my opinion at least, just twists and turns.
And maybe get to understand how this is perceived in the usa.

So what started out as something like an innocent honest question about CNN, turns out as some political topic here.

That dot thing was funny though!

You're joking. Trump is a huge deal in europe as well. Mostly even the right in the UK are gobsmacked by how awful he is.

Still it's good to see the defense of CNN here - once called the Chezlaw News Network (maybe just by me) because of the horror of me supporting the inclusion of views from the right.

Sadly most news is becoming more like entertainment - there's not much money in real journalism anymore

You are not the target market of CNN, and you hate them, so do not watch them. You adore Trump, so watch news channels and read websites that will appeal to you and that adulation. That is how that business works. You would likely cherish Breitbart "News," and would believe they give a nice balanced approach to reporting. Read them daily and someone like you will have a happy step to your day. Being honest here (since you cannot tell).

All the best.

The thing is, usually the people who criticise CNN specifically are the same people who criticise all media who are critical of Trump in general, and lump it all into the bucket of "left wing mainstream media". This issue is bigger than just CNN: the right wing propaganda machine spins non-stop to push fictional narratives and discredit facts and science as "left wing propaganda". It's problem.

They all thrive on making people listen to only them.

And generally if your world view falls under the category of just categorically stating "the media is corrupt", there are three likely reasons:

a) You fell for the formerly described propaganda.
b) Your worldview is of the type that feels very uncomfortable when somebody shines facts or logic on it.
c) You are intellectually lazy.

Now there is no single media that trumps all. You have to read several, and you need to couple it with fact-checking (encyclopedias, scholarly articles, reputable surveys and so forth). There is no lazy way to become informed. And contrary to popular belief, there never has been.

A quick solution for which media to not read are:
a) Those that don't specifically flag opinionated pieces as opinion pieces or editorials
b) Those that don't do retractment.
c) Those which don't have disclosed ownership.
d) Those who are sponsored by private individuals, political groups or governments with very strong and specific political beliefs.
e) Those that don't have editorial freedom.

Generally, you will find that many of the more dubious media ticks several of the boxes above. These are things that tend to go hand in hand. As for bias, that bias is somehow the big problem is overblown. It's when the bias is coupled with bad media practice or poor ethics you have an issue. A communist-leaning newspaper can write good articles, and so can a pro-capitalism one - as long as they abide by decent press ethics.
/thread

But I do think it is fine to be critical of CNN. I'm not so concerned about bias, but Chris Cilizza is a complete hack of an opinion writer, and the network long ago abandoned in-depth reporting in favor of low content, televised screaming matches.

Why do you like Trump if you can't tell who is right and who is wrong. (Hint: Trump is wrong.)

I've never voted for a Republican or Libertarian in my life but I'm sympathetic to the libertarian ethos. You leave me alone and I'll leave you alone. What's wrong with that?

Because there is a lot more baked into libertarianism that "leaving each other alone", as you well know.

nbc,

What would you do about this big problem on CNN? Should they:

A. Be banned from broadcasting opinion shows, only straight news
B. Be required to have equal time for a Trump sycophant for every liberal opinion given?
C. Other?
