Currently, in the national discourse, police are the enemy. I think this is a horrible thing.

99% of them wake up every day attempting make us all safer.

I hope this specific thread can be a beacon of support for police officers today.

Their are several threads on this forum talking about how police screw up.

I would like this thread to discuss when police do thing correctly, or helped somebody out.

I would like this thread to mourn women and men that are slaughtered in the line of duty.

Certainly, talk of training and techniques that can make our great Policewoman/Man even better is encouraged.

Talking of how budget allocation can be improved is encouraged.

But, wishing our hopes and prayers to women and men that put their lives on the line every day is warranted.

I Support Blue Lives.

If 1% of cops wake up every day not doing this, and 99% of cops do nothing to stop that 1%, and the system explicitly rejects the good cops that try to stop the bad cops, this claim seems highly questionable.

Do you really doubt that most policewomen/men are trying to do the right thing?

If so, not the thread for you. Now, if you think policewomen/men need to do more to hold their brethern accountable, let's discuss.

I can certainly take issue with their definition of "the right thing."

Were the cops who gassed peaceful protesters outside the White House doing the right thing? Were they making us all safer? What about the ones in Seattle who charged protesters who were just standing there and gassed them and beat them?

I'm sure many do try to do the right thing. But while intentions make you feel warm and fuzzy inside, what matters is if the institution they are part of allows them to do the right thing. Seems like it doesn't?

3 cops watched Derek Chauvin murder someone. Were they good cops, or did it just so happen that all of Minneapolis' bad apples had conveniently gathered at the same spot at the same time? Maybe one of them thought about stopping him and then remembered that Buffalo cop getting fired for trying to do that.

Most policewomen/men wake up every day, saying goodbye to their family, knowing they might not come back. Following laws and procedures that are their job to enforce.

The rate at which roofers don't come back is nearly 4x that of police and we've somehow managed to avoid turning that **** into some romantic movie plot

edit: haha I think someone else had the png, I remember it was good though

I got roofers as more important than cops, too. Everybody needs a roof! You don't call up a roofer to fix your leaky roof and get someone who shows up late and shoots your dog.

You are trying to engage in recent media examples to say these people don't work hard, their job isn't hard and they do their best to keep us protected.

Also, not speaking out about abusive cops is part of police training. It's not some accident that cops don't speak out against abuses from other cops. It's part of the institution.

It makes me sad to see how cops are being vilified over the actions of a few.

They work hard. They do their best. They need our support.

They are the first line of defense against drunk driving
They are the fist line of defense against domestic abuse (one of the most dangerous situations an officer can walk into)

Waiting for the all lives matter thread.
Why do people support blm but not blue lives or all lives? Asked the ignorant average joe who has no idea what racism is yet decides to discuss it 24/7

Must be nice to be uneducated and ignorant af, yet still have the ability to be totally right abt something you have next to zero knowledge of

policing is like the 17th most dangerous job in the US. they deserve as much respect for their "safety" as walmart loss prevention officers.

last year there were 27 days all year were police DIDN'T kill someone..

I've decided to chalk up over 90% of blue lives and all lives folk to just pure ignorance, and not malice because they're clueless as the what issue they're even talking about

FYP
saw a sad meme that was like over 40% of officers are involved in domestic abuse. then the second line said "or do you mean to say over 40% of officers also work from home."
