Wrong time to get upset over a hyperbolic comparison that 99% of the people in that meeting won't really care about.
There's no question he handled things poorly. But calling out a nonsense statement like equating some joke list with actual genocide in and of itself is fine. There is a certain danger with letting nonsense go unchallenged.

There can be, yes. But there was little to no danger here, and far more in what he did. While we have the benefit of hindsight, I don't think many of us would have needed it to figure that out.

Arguing with people about how extreme their reaction should be to a racist/xenophobic joke list is never, ever going to be a good look. Doing so makes one look either extremely naïve, or racist. And it doesn't take much imagination to figure out which one of those possibilities the offended people are going to assume applies. Take the L, and move on.

google used to have a pretty large internal message board system but after a while it became career suicide for many who started using it to air company grievances and politics

When someone spews crazy that does equal an L, for them. I wonder how many companies are lining up to hire that idiot?

the 'change' in cannabis came when corporations accepted they needed to sell it. It is not a lot more complicated than that.

With every 'natural' type remedy, medicine, etc big Pharma and corporations have always tried their best to block them being sold commercially while they try to fabricate Pharma Versions of them.

Natural opoids = bad, but as soon as we fabricate one in the lab = good.

Natural Supplements such as ginseng, aloe, etc = bad and blocked for sale as big Pharma/Corps try to replicate results and get a product to sell, but when they fail to do so, they all launch their mass produced under their own label and suddenly the same supplements prior prevented = good.

Marijuana = bad as big Pharma/Corps again try to replicate the benefits to get a product for sale, but once they realize they cannot, they jump in to sell the very product they lobbied to keep illegal and it = good. The irony being that so many people who 'sold' it prior and got arrested are now legally prevented from selling it in a legal market.

So ya, as soon as big Pharma/Corps stop lobbying the gov't to demonize it and decide they are ready to sell it, that light switch moment of change happens.
