I'm not saying they didn't exist, but I think they'd be rare whereas the car in the picture doesn't surprise me now. But I'm not American and haven't been down there in a couple of years, so maybe I'm off here.

Regardless, LOL @ the picture. Also, is the driver a potential candidate for the next "Florida man..." headline?

It certainly does, yes.

As you say the Derps and also the white supremacists have always been amongst us. But outside a few Archie Bunker types with foot in mouth disease most knew to keep their views mostly silent, even from family members. It might escape with the occasional outburst but was then quickly locked back away by most.

I like to believe that most of these people actually knew their positions were shameful even if they could not understand at the core why it was wrong to feel the way they did. Meaning they would be embarrassed if they knew others really knew how they felt on these topics.

What has happened just in the Trump era is these groups were emboldened and told basically to not hide away from it and not be embarrassed by it and come out loud and proud as we support you and think you are right. And it worked. And I think society at large was surprised at actually how many Derps and those holding white supremacist views existed amongst us.

What we thought was more fringe is actually a huge percent of the US population.

Conspiracy theories are a worldwide phenomenon and they have been in America since itís founding a good podcast about them :

I donít blame the followers (like the Jan 6 rioters) so much. We saw Belarus have a rigged election and people took to the streets. These people literally think the election was stolen so why wouldnít they take to the streets? The problem is with the people who created the lies and those in power who went along with it or kept quiet about it.

You could def. see a car covered in infowars etc stickers 5-10+yrs ago. All decked out in Q/trump flair is a relatively recent development though

Which is why I keep beating the drum that Trump and those around him need to be charged.

This is the POTUS version of screaming 'Fire' in a crowded theatre.

I do not think it is fair to say 'citizens need to know when they can and cannot trust a POTUS call to action and if they get it wrong they (citizens) go to jail, but if they get it right they may in fact be patriots who help save the Nation.'

That is far too much of a burden to on citizens.

If a POTUS takes to the airwaves and says 'this is a moment where all citizens need to step up and help fight to save our Nation from tyranny' that has to be given significant weight in a society. Such calls are made throughout history and a POTUS like Trump should not be able to say 'I didn't really mean it' and those who followed his call to action, then end up in jail.

The courts need to establish if they will allow that and then Congress needs to put new rules around such 'Calls to Action' by a POTUS or other such officials in terms of culpability.

I thought he was a Canadian, so his bumper stickers should have a ", eh?" at the end of some of those derpslogans. Remember to stay off his landlord's lawn!

Of course they have. The difference now, IMO, is how "mainstream" they have become in the US. By mainstream, I don't mean that most people believe in them, but that it's becoming more acceptable to hold such beliefs, and it seems that the US now actually has a majority of one party's supporters that believe in them to some extent.

An interesting point. Certainly far, far more of the blame goes to those responsible for creating and spreading the lies. But I don't think the followers should be off the hook (and I don't know that you're suggesting that); there should be a burden on every citizen to be able to think critically and see through all the bullshit. At the very least, there is a certain percentage of them who should know better, and likely a smaller percentage that *do* know better but are ignoring their better judgement to push this narrative that they prefer over reality, or maybe in the hope that continuing this nonsense will help "their side" in the next election.

Yeah, that's certainly true. The difference I'm seeing with the latter over the former is that it's far more specific. It's easy enough for someone to say they just like Infowars for the show, whether because they believe in some of it or claim that they think it's ridiculous and funny.

Thanks!

Does PETA still refer to the slaughter of millions of turkeys for Thanksgiving as a holocaust? I'll have to visit their website to find out.
