I posted this in the mod forum:

We need to lock up politics until we get at least two more active mods. Until we do that it will be pretty much 100% unfiltered.

I would say that if we don't have at least two suitable candidates by the end of the weekend then the forum gets locked until we do.

Although I've only participated in Politcs & Society a short while, I will miss the even-handedness and calm-cool-collected ways of well named.

With no moderator in the meantime, I'm sure everyone in here will dial the vitriol back and police themselves in a more measured way.

I agree with that, though I did also nominate a weird riggie when it was time to vote for the 2+2 Pokerstars rep at a point where that was no longer even relevant many years ago. Figure he would finally be able to see the servers with his own eyes, as if that mattered, and I think the guy would have won as well if they had not canceled the vote that year!
