All that crazy stuff you just listed put man on the Moon and is why your GPS and your cable TV and your cell phone works.

To be clear, I'm not being douchey because he's religious, I'm being douchey because he demands we treat him like a special snowflake when he wants to go on racist "white genocide" rants about Islam yet can't handle someone calling his god a derisive name.

Obviously I didn't say "all beliefs". I'm referring to the mainstream scientific consensus-- except the problem there is they don't even have a consensus because they don't know wtf is going on. You just assume there is a consensus.
I'll stop rgting/smping in the politics forum though.

To be clear, I'm being douchy coz both.

A professor friend of mine from California Polytechnic Institute (Pomona) used to say:

"I don't believe in science, but I DO believe in engineering"

Lol dude. Yeah, the computer you're posting this on now came about because there "isn't a consensus". It's amusing to listen to people shitting all over science while happily typing away on their iPhone as though it came about by magic.

What makes you think I "can't handle it".

I'm used to handling unremitting stupidity around here.

Deep.

Until you remember that engineering is applied science.

The fact that you got mad about d2 saying it and started demanding citations?

Please provide a link proving a real life person claiming to believe in "sky daddy."

(This person has to actually employ the term "sky daddy")
lol

Quite the strawman

Speculative Science and Operational Science differ.

Cellphones, space rockets, etc., are examples of the latter.

That word means something specific, it's not a general term for "I don't agree with your argument but I got nothing here", as most around here seem to use it.

But go on, what am I strawmanning here, exactly?

"Speculative science" being any science you choose to disbelieve for ideological reasons, presumably?

lol
1. I wasn't mad.

2. I'm not in a position to "demand" anything.

3. Why are you so stupid? Heredity? Environment?

No. It was a strawman. It was acribing a position to me that I'm not presenting. Yes, cell phones use "science". So does plenty of other stuff.
Is it your position that there is a scientific consensus though involving quantum physics and the fundamental nature of reality?

No.

We can discuss this in SMP if you want.

This is actually something of a hobby of mine, so I am quite well informed about it - at least as informed as a layperson can get from reading dozens of books and watching hundreds or thousands of hours of videos on the subject.

I can give you a detailed response, but this is not the thread for it.

Simple question: consensus or no consensus?

Yeah, totally makes sense, you said "post someone believing in sky daddy and it has to be those exact words" because you were super unperturbed by d2's usage of it. lol

Translation: no consensus.
So-- now that we've established that the best and brightest minds don't know what to believe, the question is how arrogant is it to come here and make fun of poor lagtight (who is an old man after all)?

The maths behind quantum mechanics works and has been proven, and is used, inter alia, to design and build devices that you use every day. Where there might be a lack of consensus is down to interpretations of how to intuitively understand what the maths is telling us. This is not a failure of the science, it is a limitation of human senses and imagination.

You're out of your depth on this one. I don't wade in claiming to be an expert on conspiracy theories - please extend me the same courtesy.

It was certainly ANNOYING, because he's used that same expression about a half dozen times.

Plus, he often corrects other posters on minor things like spelling, etc. (Which is kewl)

Kinda ironic.
