How Swedish authorities invented the rape charge against Julian Assange

Thanks to the investigative work and perseverance of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, Nils Melzer, the truth is gradually being revealed. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nils_Melzer )

One of the most successful false news stories of the last decade is the story of two women who filed a rape complaint against Julian Assange with the Swedish police in August 2010, and that the founder of Wikileaks escaped from the Swedish justice system by fleeing to England. The advantage of the Swiss Nils Melzer is that he speaks fluent Swedish, and was then able to consult the original documents. And then, to his amazement, it turned out that the course of events was quite different.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange won a temporary reprieve as he fights his extradition to the U.S. on espionage charges.

London’s High Court has given the U.S. government three weeks to provide “satisfactory assurances” Assange will receive a fair trial; have his first amendment free speech rights protected; and will not face the death penalty if he is extradited from the U.K. to the U.S.

Assange will be allowed a full appeal hearing against his extradition in May if those assurances aren’t provided in time, the court ruled.

US President Joe Biden has said that he is considering a request from Australia to drop the prosecution of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

The country's parliament recently passed a measure - backed by PM Anthony Albanese - calling for the return of Mr Assange to his native Australia.

The US wants to extradite the 52-year-old from the UK on criminal charges over the leaking of military records.

Mr Assange denies the charges, saying the leaks were an act of journalism.

The president was asked about Australia's request on Wednesday and said: "We're considering it."

I was told in this forum, repeatedly, that the Biden admin DOJ was independent.

If that is the case why is Biden considering to change how (and if) to prosecute someone?

Others will have to answer but maybe he just meant the relevent department are considering it.

Biden is quoted as saying 'we're considering in'. Article says 'He is considering'

Yes but isn't that a matter for the DOJ?

Biden shouldn't even have a say on the topic IF the DOJ is independent.

Or maybe I am missing something

In English, "we" can be used as a metonym. For example, if your football team scores, you might say "we" scored, even though you are not one of the players, nor the coach. Is it different in Italian?

'We're' is informative.

Can't be anything wrong with answering the question with the information that the usa is looking into it. Which is all 'we're' means

I've no idea of the reality or facts. Usually when a politician says were looking into it, I consider that as containing no information other than they dont want to say anything. As it's a request from an ally government I expect someone is officially consdering it.

OK now we might advance the conversation from the definition of we, to how we might place a comma after 'if that is the case'

And maybe relocate repeatedly to.. 'I was told repeatedly in this forum that... or I was repeatedly told.' Instead of bookending it with commas uh elsewhere in the text.

More importantly 'considering' probably refers to considering the request rather than considering what was requested

I only posetd it because it was good to see the Australian government standing up over this. UK government is concerned as well so you never know USA might concede it (behind the scenes a lot more likely then openly)

We are considering, carefully, your request.

FYP. Schlitz wasn't asking you to drop the commas altogether.

A bunch of reruns came up as suggestions in my Youtoobz recently and I ended up basically rewatching most of it. Really great stuff, arguably ahead of its time. Served as the progenitor of shows like The Thick of It, which has to be up there with my favourite shows of all time.

Didn't know they had an inside source, but it doesn't surprise me.
