Is that a provincial thing... or did the NHL allow that?

I would assume both parties would have to give the green light for this to actually happen?

I know road teams aren't allowed to go out, but I'm not sure if there's a restriction on the home team. If that's the case, provincial regulations are all that would stand in the way for home players. Here in BC, restaurants and pubs are fine, but only with members of your own household.

Except as otherwise provided for in this Protocol, Members of the Club Travelling Party are not permitted to leave the hotel to eat (or to purchase food) or otherwise to use any restaurants or bars (in hotel or otherwise) open to the public.

Transmission of COVID-19 has also occurred during unmasked social interactions that have occurred outside of the workplace, including interactions involving teammates, family, and friends within the person’s community, and most notably, while dining. It is, therefore, strongly recommended that all participants in the NHL’s 2020/21 Season conduct themselves as follows while they are outside the facility and in the community:
- When in your home market, avoiding going to restaurants, bars, and clubs.
*Notes taken from the NHL Covid-19 Protocol documents.

Now we know. Dining out is either prohibited or highly frowned upon.

To me it seems like a bit of a non-issue from a public health standpoint, but it's interesting to see how that meshes/conflicts with NHL protocols, and whether that means they plan to change them.

Depending on how it plays out, it could be, yes.

Is the lockdown not easing soon? Numbers have been looking really good there recently.

I still think the NHL provides a ton of entertainment for folks that are in lockdown.

Though in Alberta we had the lowest numbers in 4 months yesterday of new cases 148 I do believe. The USA has been below a 100,000 cases and doing relatively well on vaccinations as well. Next 4 -8 weeks will be crucial on these new strains.

One of the conversations over the last few days was that [NHL] players are going to have to recognize that movement will need to be limited — just home/hotel to rink, and nothing else, no matter where you reside. It’s not easy on anyone, but there’s no alternative. If tough protocols don’t work, there may be no escaping a pause to the season.

I agree that the NHL has provided entertainment, and a break from the daily grind of being 'locked down.'

That's a good point. That does support that it is a GREAT time for a carbon tax, thanks for bringing that up. We want to make sure that Canada is the one leading the shifts in economies that will inevitably happen everywhere, but we want our industry to be at the cutting edge and get the first mover advantages. And because the carbon tax is relatively close to revenue neutral, if its expenditures keep getting piled back into job creating green initiatives then we get these additional boosts.

Was reading no teams have actually taken advantage of the dining offer, not sure if bc it is against nhl policy or bc it is so tone deaf.

Yes some of ontario opening up I believe non essentials at 25% capacity-toronto, among other places, to follow in 2 weeks

They've been hit pretty hard in the US, with some teams having double-digit cases and having to postpone a week+ worth of games in an already VERY tight schedule, so I imagine it's mostly in response to that. Meanwhile, no cases on Canadian-based teams. So far. *Knocks on wood*

I end up getting lost on the CBC website... and come across a clip of Canadian Family Feud.

The title: Canadians think the sun and moon are planets | Family Feud Canada

Ok, I bite. I click. I watch.

Long story short... 12 people answered either sun or moon when asked to name a planet larger than Earth.

The two contestants on the show, and 10 people who were 'polled.'

Should I be concerned?

LOL, I almost searched to make sure my information was still accurate today, but didn't bother. No bubble burst though, I figured this was inevitable. And also unrelated to their enhanced measures.

Remember when Kenney was absolutely SCREECHING about how trudeau was failing the country for not getting rapid tests fast enough? The level headed people were pointing out that health canada (not trudeau lol) wasn't approving them because there are serious questions about their efficacy, but ok let's go with it. Bad trudeau. We hate trudeau. It's trudeau's fault.

Well trudeau got them shortly after they were approved and gave them to Kenney. And Kenney didn't do a ****ing thing with them
Quote:
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney pressured the federal government to speed approval of rapid tests back in the spring and threatened to acquire the tests from other countries if Health Canada did not approve them quickly enough here. Alberta has only used 17,000 of the 1.9 million rapid COVID-19 tests it has so far received by the federal government — just 0.89 per cent of the total.
My god this man is such a ****ing joke.

We agree on that though other provinces as well not using the rapid tests. Amazes me how much hate you have for this man

The real joke though is Justin Trudeau. Which country is doing the worst of the G7? Which country just keeps falling lower and lower in Vaccines?

Lol you are the joke.

Alberta was running a pilot program with the rapid test and people could voluntarily try it when they went and got tested. It required 2 swabs to be done, I actually tried it the last time I was tested. They used the data to ensure the rapid tests were accurate and now they are starting this program:

If my counting is correct, Canada is somewhere between 40-50th in the world when it comes to "Cumulative COVID-19 vaccination doses administered per 100 people" with 3.14 vacs/100 people, as of Feb. 11.
