Why is the first place you go to?
I'd say that a "woke cabinet" take (which I'm not saying you're embracing) is a lot like the most recent SC appointment in the US, where people got all excited that Biden vowed to nominate a black woman. One can put together a list of people that would be qualified for the position, but I think it would be nearly impossible to be able to come to an objective ranking of all the candidates, so choosing one of the very qualified candidates based on diversity seems like an excellent idea. The same goes for cabinet positions IMO. Once in a while an MP/Senator/Congressperson will have outstanding qualifications for a particular cabinet position/portfolio, but that's rarely the case. Additionally, people are often getting such positions as rewards for loyalty, geographical representation, political considerations, etc. Why should using ethnic, cultural, language, or gender diversity cause us any concern? On the contrary, I think we should be concerned if it wasn't a factor.
