huh? How would it possibly take 4 years for your sisters with a masters to be a teacher? Most of the time they are 16 month or something like that programs, right? Which seems right, there are lots of things to learn about being an effective teacher that just having a masters degree doesn't automatically guarantee.

So I am watching the news and Justin Trudeau ahs banned all non residents from flying into Canada . I am thinking great job till I hear that excludes US citizens.

Does he not realize the US is doing the worst possible job out there and their citizens may post the greatest threat?

Obviously he knows that, what a stupid criticism. The US and Canadian societies and economies are just super integrated, which makes the price of closing that much larger. Doesn't mean he shouldn't do it as that price is probably worth paying, just means your criticisms of it is stupid.

So how many deaths does he calculate are worth it. I am not saying close it to trade just folks flying in and driving across the border. Of course not truck drivers. I realize Trump may be pissed but....

The USA has to be in the top 5 of the worst countries handling the virus

You guys can both be right btw. There's obviously a number of deaths that is acceptable to not completely ruin life for everyone else. Luckily I don't have to make that decision!

BC hasn't closed schools yet (although it is spring break and I am guessing they will). People are still allowed out of their houses for nonessentials. People are going to work. All of this is a "how many deaths are worth it" calculation.

Its a tough call. I notice Andrew Cuomo on the US news a ton. He seems to be doing a really good job.

I think any politician weather a mayor, premier or prime minister communicate to the people tell them what you want them to do.

Looked yesterday and it was 182,403 cases with 7144 deaths that is just under 4% and right now 188,294 and 7499 deaths . Scary and its early

And italy is at 8% death rate of confirmed to dead!!! Of course their health care system is collapsing so death rate is higher than it should be if we "flattened the curve" or whatver

Sadly I see a high rate in the USA . I think Canada will cop

Alberta declared a state of emergency. Sadly I see a bunch of small business will not survive. I have a rental suite above my garage with a dead beat renter I have been trying to get rid of and she has hit the lottery as I am guessing evictions and eviction notices will not be enforced.

LOL No. The US current fatality rate is ~1.5%, and a big chunk of that is 1 nursing home in Washington state that was caught completely unawares. Once testing gets ramped up for mild cases the reported rate will probably fall somewhere south of 1%, with the real rate being somewhere around 0.5% or lower.

Reality is we will never know as so many will go untested and have mild symptoms which if recorded would confirm what you say. I hope your right

Well, I suspect sometime in the near future public health researchers will do antibody tests to work out actual infection rates.

In the meantime, quarantined cruise ships could provide pretty good small sample size preliminary data, assuming everyone on them was tested and followed adequately, which seems to be what is going on with The Princess Cruise at least.

going back to the US border thing, sounds like it is closing. The guesses at the time was that they were in heavy negotiation with the US over logistics which is why it was excluded and will come down next 24-72 hours.

A person I know was going to go to the States this week to see how his parents are doing there. It was not going to be a vacation, but I have been telling him that if he goes, good chance he will not get back here, as I assumed the border would be closed before March ends. Ironic that Trump will get his borders closed as he wants, though he is not likely the one who chose that.

As to the antibodies test, that type of discussion is above my pay grade, but I do wonder how society will adapt when this thing goes on longer. The first 3 weeks everyone can virtually high five each other for a job well done. Add 3 months - and while I believe supplies of essentials will be fine and consistent, what we may very well see are the younger generations (and all those not being paid) wondering if all of these restrictions are worth the cost, and as a corollary to that, if there is a relatively easy test to see if a person has the antibodies or whatever to show they had it and are now immune and not a carrier - will different structures be setup in terms of social gatherings etc for those who technically no longer represent a risk of carrying or catching it. Many of those people will feel there is no need to self isolate, and (again, above my pay grade) - perhaps they will be correct.

Reality is the government gave you ample warning to get back. There may be a ton of snowbirds whom will need to ride this out. Though I do have a friends mom that got stuck in Singapore as she could not get her luggage as she would than be quaranteed 14 days and she could not get on the plane without her luggage.

Saw a stat yesterday that Canada has tested 26,700 and the USA only 22,700

Citizens can still return along with permanent residents, and they may receive up to a 5k loan to do so

Trudeau spent a ton of cash today and I am not sure its enough and what he spent scared me .

Kenney in Alberta if smart abandons his fiscal plan and spends as well. Oil hits a number no one thought it would and Alberta's oil is discounted

I don't think any amount of money matters at this point. They plan to spend a trillion in the US and the market response was to circuit breaker once again. It's just an absolutely unimaginable black swan event and every government in the world can't do a damned thing to prevent it at this point.

The one that was getting me was India. A billion people, small "social distances", weak healthcare. And the virus is just starting there.

Found out today that the current project im working on is suspended for a minimum of 90 days. With school most likely being out until September I've always wanted to home school so looking forward to giving that a shot and relaxing with the family for the next few months.

I look at myself. I build infill homes and had 4 slated for this year. We postponed 2 for sure till next year and may postpone the other two. I have a renter above my garage that is a deadbeat. Paid first two months now lots of excuses and lies. Never has the cash but Ubers to and from work and daily skip the dishes. Soon the government will protect her and I am out that income as well.

I have friends with small businesses that may last a month but two I am not sure past that. I personally see this lasing a minimum 4-6 weeks but who knows.

Though I have to say our Health Care system is doing a great job and other provinces seems to be doing the same.

I think the Americans are in deep trouble and soon will claim # 1 status on deaths and cases

What exactly will last 4-6 weeks? At least a third or more of people are not staying in, not giving space and not giving a ***. No western country is getting thru this in 4-6weeks.
