Party time, Lozen!

Looking like it could be a small gain by Liberals and NDP, but early days still.

Called Otoole would never win an election last year. This was kind of a waste of time and pointless, I guess PPC grew their base.

PPC needs to settle down with some of their absurd takes, but they are pro crypto so I support that.

Alright, leadership resignation watch. I think nobody is resigning tonight. I think Paul is done. I think Singh survives. Not sure about O'Toole. I hope he stays, I want the CPC to reward its dive to the left. Like it is good that every elected party leader supports a climate change plan. But I don't know if he will. They kicked Scheer out for a pretty similar performance.

Yes and no. An election was going to happen within 2 years regardless, probably within the year as minority governments in Canada almost never last the full four years. That cost was going to be paid. Now we've extended the likely date out into the future as it is hard to imagine another election soon unless something massive happens. There is a clear mandate for now and that isn't nothing.

Lol please …….
Not because we would have election in 2 years anyway for 600 millions is the same as putting 1.2 in another 2 years because you know …..,
« it’s ok to put 600 millions in 2023 because we would had another election in 2025 » kinda logic ….

As I've mentioned before , it doesn't work. You don't win people over by saying the same things as your opponents. Did Trump get the most votes ever for President by moving republicans left and tip toeing around the media because he was scared of negative press?

Maybe. Maybe not. I mean if you guys want to be on team “all minority governments should last four years without any earlier elections ” I’m ready to jump on that bandwagon today. Four more years sounds fantastic!

Meh. On both sides of the spectrum there is a constant debate. Move to the extremes and thus be more motivating for your core supporters? Or move to the center and be more persuasive to moderates in the middle. Both are true, and false. Both can win, or win, elections.

Personally I think OToole made the correct electoral strategy to dive to the left and be more appealing to moderates who didn’t like Trudeau personally like lozen. I think if he went to the right like the losing loser Bernier he would have lost more.

It’s more about when you have a minority government that is working why break it and spend 600 millions for it ?

If you really want to break a government, just propose bill you are sure won’t pass ,and be judge for it , shrug .

I do not think Canada is rich enough to spend 600 millions like crackerjack ….

Anyway i rather have a minority government than a majority one .
I dislike dictators.
(Speaking generally not aiming at Trudeau)

O'Toole was making his case for staying; he mentioned at least four time how Justin was going to campaign for 18 months before calling an election.

Forgot to add - Paul is the only one I think is sure to go. I believe the Greens have an automatic leadership review, and I'd be surprised if she survived.

that was weird, eh? Like, he is referencing a pretty hypothetical comment Trudeau made in the unofficial French debate, like you can barely even find English language papers giving a direct quote. I don’t really get why he was centering his political life on this. Perhaps the argument implicitly is you can’t replace him as leader as it is to short a timeline or something?

At the time, Trudeau's clarification was that he was referencing the typical lifespan of a minority government. IE if we don't get a majority now, we'll likely be doing this again in 18 months. While we know politicians are constantly spinning things, that clarification seems far more likely than him actually suggesting he'd be calling another election in 18 months. For him to do so would be political suicide, unless something big happens that allows him to make it happen without taking the blame.

In fact, this election makes it tough for any of the parties to force an election in less than 3-4 years. They'll need some pretty good cover to do so.

Right, that's what I was suggesting - can't imagine any other reason he'd be doing it.
