This. And basically, long story short browser, you're a try-hard who has no idea how to moderate a discussion on politics, and your idea of moderation is to ban people who call others clowns.

Clue: it's not about how people say it, it's about what they say. You can either get that through your shell, or you can look on as this place degenerates to a cesspool on your watch, while you fiddle and contemplate whether me calling you an incompetent buffoon right now is banworthy or not.

Just read the liberal Dem posts for that sort of conservatism then

Victor, have you ever contemplated that trying to label absolutely everyone you've ever met in your life may not be the most productive course of action if your goal is to build any semblance of interpersonal relationships?

I mean, sure, some people may be the labels you put upon them. But you'd literally label a fly some "agent of the capitalist devil" given the opportunity. Maybe rein in this persona a bit? Or, if this is your actual persona, well, I am so sorry.

This post violates the thread's rule on rudeness. I don't want you banned but I did have to report it. FYI

FWIW you didn't call me a clown you said something about killing a mime. Can't remember exactly but mimes are people. Talking about killing them is not okay. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk

Ok but I just said that liberal Dems are the supposed well thought out conservative. If you don't believe me, then ask Obama who likened himself to Reagan. I would ask you to try to use some critical thought but well...

Anyway try to keep the lies to a minimum. I'm not the guy talking about flies or asking for bans.
05-30-2023 , 09:01 PM
Also, clearly not the guy understanding the very basic figures of speech, like analogies and metaphors.

Look, Victor, if you just said "hey guys, I have all these ideas, but I'm actually a bit touched in the head," then people would understand.

You actually spit out defences of Lenin and Stalin and Pol Pot like it's nothing. This is why people dislike you. Not some CIA extermination of minorities with crack, Victor.

No. People genuinely dislike you because you are dick - crack distribution trough some conspiratorial channel or or otherwise.

There you go lying again.

Got any plans for things to do for your month+ departure from here?

While I don't want to make more work for the mod(s), I think it's asking too much for someone who has just been insulted to turn the other cheek and ignore it, just waiting for something to be done about it by a mod, especially when that something is likely to be slow coming.

In some cases there is nothing else for the insulted person to reply to, so ignoring it basically ends the argument and gives the insulter (and likely others) the impression that they have won, encouraging them to do that kind of thing in the future.

Personally I would prefer that nothing coming from an insult directed at me be deleted, I would much rather it be left there for others to what is not allowed, and that it be pointed out in the thread, along with something done to penalize the insulter. I would think that would be standard practice, unless some particular word was used which is considered offensive in itself (which was not the case in the most recent incident).

I think you’re often the one losing if you respond to the insult.

Maybe, but you're letting the insulter get the last word, which will likely make him think he has won.

Personally I think anyone lowering himself to insults in some way knows he has already lost, but cognitive dissonance doesn't let him see himself as the loser.

You don’t think they might perceive that as a win if they’ve successfully gotten under your skin enough for a response? It’s probably better for you to only care about what people think when they’re someone you respect. Caring about the negativity of others who don’t care about you is a lot of wasted energy. I don’t always succeed in following my own advice but I think it’s still true.

I don't think you're getting that ignoring the insulting post would sometimes mean abandoning the entire conversation/argument.

It's not about getting under my skin, nothing that is said here is affecting my 'real life'. I don't know anyone here well enough to respect them.
It's about being able to have an actual debate based on arguments and logic, not on name calling.

I get the natural instinct to want to respond to an insult. But overall it usually just leads to a derail of more insults. And everyone wants to get the last word in. So while someone might think that with a pithy comment number 2 in response to the insulting comment number 1 that it will end the discussion and they will het the last word in, unfortunately that almost never happens. Esp when the insulters purpose is to draw a response in the first place.

So you end up trying to come up with a pithy comment number 20 in response to the insulting comment number 19. By simply ignoring and reporting the insult you eliminate the derail. It doesnt give any power or standing to the insult. It's sort of like when someone slow rolls you at the poker table. They do it to piss you off and get a reaction. Simply ignore them and they stop. Just report the post and let the mod take the appropriate action.

This is from the overall site rules. The first paragraph is rule number 1. It is not some unique Politics forum requirement to not insult people. Another key point is that each poster has the ability to customize the forum to make it most enjoyable for themselves. You can either chose not to respond, or you can put them on ignore, and they wont aggravate you again. So you can be proactive in reducing your exposure to posters you feel detract from your enjoyment of the forum. While those posters may eventually get banned, you dont have to wait that long to get them off your pages.

"No personal attacks. A personal attack is an attack directed at a person (or group of people), rather than at a post or argument itself. This is, of course, somewhat subjective. Basically, be kind to one another, or at the very least, keep it civil. Very few people want to read lengthy flame wars. If someone attacks you, we ask that you use the “Report a Post” button rather than responding in kind. Attack the argument, not the person.

*Try to ignore bothersome members. If there is someone on the forum that bothers you, the best option is to block him/her.

* Report problematic posts/posters. Not only is this better than starting an argument about the quality of a post, but it also helps moderators, who do not read every thread on our forums. The reason a problematic post remains is quite often because a moderator isn’t aware of it."
06-08-2023 , 08:31 PM
The majority of folks can't block someone as they have to see the response
