Come now, being a bit playful shouldn't be tolerated on this forum!

So you're saying that you started a thread about the decision in the UK but in fact never intended to discuss it or have anyone talk about it? What does made the thread for uke even mean?

You think we should allow people to start fake threads that they have no desire to discuss the stated topic of bc it's fun? And so people waste their time reading it or a mod wastes time deleting it but that's ok bc 2 posters wanted to play with each other?

You realize right that I've been a mod here for 2 months and the changes didn't really kick in for about a month? Do you think we did something like place an announcement in the other forums recruiting people to come back? Or that all the people who quit checking the forum months ago would suddenly know to take a second look? And how many noobs do you think would suddenly bc regular frequent posters in one month? Did I ever post anything suggesting there would be a large number of new users in just 30 days?

Is it your belief that the forum today is less palatable to noobs than 2 months ago?

I am shocked that there weren't masses of people outside the door waiting to enter and thinking. "You know, I'd go in there if not for that QP guy constantly complaining that people weren't agreeing with him enough. Oh, and that washoe guy and his word vomit - what's up with that? But once they're gone I'll be in like a flash."

There does seem to be a noticeable reduction in tangents. Personal sniping that still happens is mostly accompanied by an actual argument which seems like a big improvement.

My belief is that this is a declining subforum of a declining forum and unlikely to get many new regulars regardless of what moderation changes you do or do not make. I think that most of the various heavy handed moderation attempts justified under the claim of making the forum more palatable to noobs are just not really going to result in a big influx of said noobs transitioning to being regulars.

I didn't get the impression it was a "fake thread" or one with "no desires to discuss the topic" (although nutella probably misinterpreted my stance).

Probably true, the main tangent person is gone now. In general I think tangents are a good thing, so if there is a non-QP related reduction in tangents as well (i'm not sure that is true), it is probably mostly a bad thing.
02-28-2023 , 03:03 PM
Obviously tangents are fine and something that is naturally going to happen.. It's the "bad tangents" where the thread gets sidetracked on some ridiculous issue that are the problem- not tangents in general.

Basically what Uke said.

I propose a tangent about tangents. For example, we could discuss a limit of secants.

The newer generation are all on twitter / reddit / facebook / tiktok / instagram / youtube on political matters.

Pick a thread at random from this forum. Scroll through the join dates. There are almost none from this decade. Heck, there are plenty that didn't even join last decade. I guess lagtight made his alt back in 2016 which is kinda recent by this forum's standards.

Yeah there are no new folks joining this thread . Reality is the best thing that could happen for all of us is to delete the politics thread all together

Yup. Forums are dying in general I think.

2 months and 1965 posts in the mod thread. Almost 1k posts per month. That's like 32 posts each day. That is different and not peculiar at all.

Anyways, again, since in your mind I started a troll thread just delete it. A normal person doesn't go around ninja editing so posts fit your designation of acceptability. Or would deleting it after I ask be too much for your control obsessed ego to endure. Either put it back as was or delete it otherwise it's just a vain power trip

Browser doing a good job.

It's a micrcosm of one of the main problem in politcs to be so short term rather than thinking of the years and decades usually required for changes to play out. And principles are abandoned so easily.

Of course there is also a noticeable reduction in readable content and discussion as well.

The only thing I took out was the reference to you doing it for uke, which was completely immaterial to the topic of the thread. I left the actual content of your post completely intact. So we'll see if it generates any discussion or not.

It is interesting though bc when I first deleted posts many felt it would be better if I had just edited out the part that broke the rules and leave the rest bc they didnt want to lose the entire post over one sentence.

Just to clarify some things. Below is the comparison screen that shows the difference between what the original post was and what it was after I edited it. What I removed was the sentence in red. So when nutella said to delete the thread bc he only did it for uke, that indicated to me he didnt want to actually discuss the topic. Which seemed strange.

I asked for clarification and he still wants it deleted. Which is why I questioned his intent about discussing the topic at all. Hence the term fake thread. And the reason I deleted that line in the first place is bc uke posted right after it that he didnt understand why it would be for him, bc he prefers a different approach.

Given the history here of posters getting all worked up about other posters having their thoughts misrepresented, I simply removed the reference to uke. BFD. It had nothing to do with the discussion topic of the thread.

Post Comparison
- I'm not one to start threads here, but this one's for Uke

Transgender women with a functioning penis, sexual assault conviction or violent offense conviction cannot be housed in female prisons. Seems reasonable and in line with a majority of voters.
