US takes down Iran-linked news sites, alleges disinformation:

Quote:
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — American authorities seized a range of Iran’s state-linked news website domains they accused of spreading “disinformation” on Tuesday, a U.S. official said, a move that appeared to be a far-reaching crackdown on Iranian media amid heightened tensions between the two countries.

I don't think the NYC mayoral election warrants its own thread, but the results were pretty interesting.

Kathryn Garcia ran as the competent manager of city government. She had the endorsement of the NYT and dominated Manhattan. Maya Wiley ran as the progressive. She dominated the affluent and hipster areas of Brooklyn, which are mostly white. Eric Adams ran as the former cop who would stand up for minority communities without defunding the police. He dominated the outer boroughs, especially in neighborhoods with large non-white populations and higher crime rates. Yang did OK in specific pockets with large Asian and Jewish populations, but on balance, he seems to have lost a lot of votes to the people who were inclined to vote for someone like Garcia.

This was NYC's first experiment with ranked choice voting. Adams got the most first place votes (31.7%) and appears highly likely to win the race after the ranked choice votes are counted. Wiley and Garcia received 22.2% and 19.5% of the first place votes, respectively. Yang received 11.7% of the first place votes and has conceded already.

For me, the election highlights how much ground progressives still have to cover with lower income voters, especially non-white, lower income voters. It's hard to say how much Wiley was hurt by the current mayor, Bill De Blasio, who ran as a progressive and who was widely regarded as terrible.

I'm not a religious person... But I'm glad somebody on the right is calling her out. I'm not a fan of Candice Owens. I was really disappointed when Tatum got involved with her.

Their viewpoints seem to align perfectly. Tatum was probably crushed when she got married.

Yeah this is pretty weird and apparently there were urban legends about this stuff for decades.
Maybe one of the Canucks here can confirm.

It is a sad part of Canada's history. Sadly there will be more graves.

The government has apologized for its role but the main culprit the catholic church has refused.

@lagtight will likely use this a future reference of how 'faith' puts some form of boundaries around religious people that atheist do not have thus society, as a whole, is safer, less at risk, from the religious as compared to the atheists.

The good news being that 'no', forgiveness for these acts is very simple. Few people outside a true sociopath will not feel some grief for such acts and Christianity offers and quick and easy path to redemption for all of them.

It is a case where you can enjoy the earthly rewards for any despotic acts and then get the bigger reward in heaven. A true win/win.

I believe in the vaults in the Vatican, never to be released we would find documentation and communications between those on the ground running these facilities and hierarchy. A view that these people (these savages) were not really human but some could be socialized to something approximating human. And the idea those who could not should simply be put down like an animal considered irredeemable. You just don't waste resources on them once you see you will not get the value back.

Milo Yiannopoulos to open conversion therapy facility in Florida

Right-wing cultural critic Milo Yiannopoulos came out last week as “ex-gay” — and is now preparing to open a controversial conversion therapy facility in Florida, The Post has learned.

In an interview with The Post, the former Breitbart News editor revealed his plans to launch the “reparative therapy” clinic “to help other people go through the same journey that I’m on myself,” despite the lack of data showing effectiveness of the exercise.

Asked in what sense he is “ex-gay,” Yiannopoulos told The Post that he is in an ongoing process of trying to reorient his homosexuality, but for now is in a stage of abstinence and enjoys using the term to troll his critics.

“‘Ex-gay’ is a silly expression but it has the virtues of slotting into a print headline neatly and absolutely enraging the opposition. Celibacy is a modest and achievable middle term goal; naturally, in the end, my aspiration would be to take it all the way,” he said.

Describing what he called a “Christian renaissance” occurring in the US, Yiannopoulos said fundraising for the effort was taking off considerably, citing a backlash against establishment LGBTQ political activism.

This has been the easiest thing to raise money for that I’ve ever done. There is an enormous demand for this among people who believe they’ve been led astray by — it sounds silly to call it this — but you know, the gay establishment,” Yiannopoulos said.

“I think part of that is the resurgence of religious, socially conservative, kind of reactionary politics among noisy young conservatives,” he explained, adding that he has “people who are kind of like DMing me now” to ask “‘where do I send the f–king check?’ You know, like, get me in your program.”

Asked about concerns over the potential harm to gay youth, Yiannopoulos dismissed those fears as merely the product of the practice having a bad rap.

“Basically, people who don’t believe in it call it ‘conversion therapy,’ and people who do believe in it call it ‘reparative therapy,'” he began.

Arguing that “the gay lobby” was “so poisonous and wicked and evil,” Yiannopoulos said that he is not convinced by data touted by the interest group or its allies, which undermines conversion therapy.

“For those people to suggest that reparative therapy is somehow damaging to people’s self esteem, is so laughably preposterous, I don’t take it seriously,” ...

so many people believe the conspiracy theories that GOP officials just proved are untrue

While i agree with what Krystal and Saagar say in that segment I find it amusing they do not include themselves and their show. the focus on 'All such Cable News shows' while not mention their show is same format.

Now that is not an equivalency argument as 'Fox opinion' way worse than 'MSNBC Opinion', worse then 'CNN' opinion, worse than 'Rising' opinion.

But they all would use the same defense if challenged in court over their opinion pieces.

I disagree 100% when do you see CNN, MSNBC critical of Biden or Fox of Trump. They shill their sides. The difference with them and Joe Rogan per say is if they get it wrong they admit it and apologize. The Covingtom kid still waiting for Chris Cuomo's apology or him admitting he was wrong

Well, by that standard you shouldn't be quoting those clown either. Maddow's statements on MI were factually correct, if you just read what MI republicans said on voter fraud. Insane to compare that to Tucker who still routinely goes to bat for the big lie. And lol at them quoting Greenwald to get there. Basically inception of people you cannot regard as factual reporters.

While i respect anyone having an opinion you are just wrong here. You are trying to draw equivalency based on their partisan views and you would lose there. They do all have slants and you are correct there, but Fox is way worse not in what they choose to show but what they chose not to show.

But where the real heart of the issue is in the abject lies Fox is welling to utilize as a whole organization method.

In just one example they are taking a whole organization view to very deliberately craft and instill the 'Big Lie' in a significant part of the populace. They have a strategic coordination (verbalized or not) to indoctrinate a percent of the population.

They absolutely know what they are doing, as they see Insurrectionist after Insurrectionist being sentenced in court and talking about a form of 'brainwashing' they succumbed to.

Fox is very deliberately targeting the dumbest and most gullible amongst the citizenry with propaganda campaign which is very different, and a first in major media if not all media in the US. They are very deliberately using cult brainwashing techniques.

That CNN and MSNBC could use more balance is not an argument against the above.
