I bet the cutting a hand of for theft did deter a lot of people. But if not, it certainly made it harder to steal again.
I'm not for draconian punishments for theft though. Rape and murder are different. Try a harsher deterrent for rape. If that still doesn't work, lifetime in prison with no chance of parole after the first one will make society a hell of a lot safer.
I honestly have no idea why anyone would even want to try to rehabilitate a rapist. We have enough non-rapists to get along without them.
the point about death penalty was , even people knowing death penalty was a possibility, they still did it , regardless of what they did , rape or not.
obv i am for punishment for rape, but to think there is a deterrent to everything is dubious.
and when u go too far in deterrent, u risk awful punishment in regards to innocent that didnt commit the crime but still got convicted.
im pretty sure judicial mistake on rape did happen too....
btw yes there is danger in living, its called life .
the concept of going too far in punishment and laws that restrict liberty to a pulp trying to create a perfect no danger living standard is pretty much impossible.
