I'm not sure China deals with the Billionaires any better than the US does?

We all know that anything that embarrasses of challenges the Chinese gov't can see you jailed or disappeared. I don't think any one is under any illusions on that, Billionaire or not, top Official or not.

In the US certainly the wealth offers most Billionaires the chance to settle or avoid jail where a poorer person would not have that choice. But we still see the likes of Bernie Madoff and Michael Milken types occasionally end up in jail and rightly so.

I am not sure what point you are trying to make but I think the US system is superior in this regard in that at least I think the Billionaires who do not escape jailing, generally deserve the punishment for real crimes and not just opposing Chinese gov't.

Jack Ma may be next jailed in China unless he changes his ways and I certainly do not think he should be jailed for what he says to challenge the Party.

Michael Millken and Bernie Madoff are the rare exceptions
and it may have happened to them only because they ripped off other wealthy people

the fact that wealthy people so rarely spend time in jail makes a mockery of the words we teach to our children:

all men are created equal

justice is blind

This expression means that justice is impartial and objective. There is an allusion here to the Greek statue for justice, wearing a blindfold so as not to treat friends differently from strangers, or rich people better than the poor ones.

not trying to say China is to be admired for jailing billionaires who dissent

just pointing out the differences

While I agree the US system is massively distorted in favour of the powerful/rich, the Chinese is no better and in fact worse.

The powerful in China (party faithful) are not getting called to account for their abuses, and it is only those who go against the other powerful/rich in China who do.

You would not see the equivalent of a Jack Ma, in the US being disappeared for merely speaking out against the politics of a party and yet in China that is enough to end him. He will be gone and his company given to a party loyalists or destroyed. Not for law breaking but for holding a 'wrong' opinion.

Hopefully he was drunk out of his mind. Not that it excuses his behaviour, and he obviously has some ****ed-up beliefs that came out in his drunken stupor.

Yeah, unless they have another form of restraint they were supposed to use.

As much as I may want to, don't think pissing on the carpet of a Muslim schools library is going to have great results.

Inmate sentenced to nearly 25 years for killing cellmate who raped his sister

A Washington state prison inmate was sentenced to another 24 years in prison on top of his current sentence after he killed his cellmate, the man who raped his younger sister.

KHQ reported Shane Goldsby, 26, beat 70-year-old Robert Munger to death in July 2020 at the Airway Heights Correction Center in Airway Heights, Washington.

Goldsby attacked Munger from behind and struck him in the face 14 times. He was captured on video stomping on his head at least four times before walking away, court documents say.

According to reports, Munger had molested a number of victims, including Goldsby’s sister, and was serving a 43-year prison sentence for child sex crimes.

In a July 2020 interview, Goldsby told KHQ Munger had taunted him with details about the abuse, which happened years before the attack...

...“He kept… giving me details about what happened and what he did. About the photos and videos of him doing this stuff, and it was building up,” Goldsby said.

Outrageous and they should prosecute/discipline anyone who knew (or should have known) and is responsible for them being in the same vicinity, let alone same cell.

Millionaire surgeon divorces beauty queen Regina Turner after discovering her ‘secret double life as $700k escort’

Kim, 41, had previously claimed in a 264-page document filed in the Manhattan Supreme Court that his 32-year-old wife had duped him into the union saying she had hidden her “secret life as a prostitute for weathy men” from him.

The doctor claimed in the document that Turner had been paid nearly $700,000 in cash by her clients since 2015.

Kim initially filed for divorce in December 2020 after he discovered a racy text message from another man on a computer in their Upper East Side home, court documents alleged.

... Kim later discovered his wife had been selling sex for money before they wed on November 27, 2015, and continued to do so during their marriage, ...

...

“It remains inconceivable to plaintiff that given his substantial earnings as a spine surgeon, and his enormous generosity to defendant, that defendant continued to sell sex for money during the marriage,” the complaint alleges.

Turner, who was named Miss Connecticut USA in 2011, is said to have conned Kim while they dated, telling the doc she was working on an app which was supported by a wealthy investor.

...

Turner is said to have covered up her secret work by telling her husband she was going out with girlfriends or had to travel as part of her work, the papers allege...

The $700K escort headline is pretty misleading. There are $700K mailmen out there.

Some of us with some internal fistpumps but this article could probably go in the cop thread. Just shows how far the the rotten cop culture goes. They were either doing the inmate a "favor" or were following orders.
